"Does a real photographer carry his camera to the grocery store to do his monthly shopping?"

My old friend, pro Charlie Harbutt always had his Leica with him. (Except for the time he left it in a bar but we went right back and got it so he didn't have it for maybe 5 minutes. <g>)

“Horses for courses”. My phone gets me shots, however imperfect, that my “real camera” can’t capture. My “real camera” gets me shots that my phone can’t handle. My two cents.

Great viewpoint!
Smartphone is in a holster on my hip all the time.
My Nikon D3100 is usually in its Bag.

Without the best equipment, we're only as good as everyone with a phone.

The "Troll Master" is at it again. I'll bite. So you're saying that ONLY the best equipment is better than a phone? That's simply not true and you know it. As someone wiser than me once said, "The best camera is the one you have with you."

We do seem to overlook the ADVANTAGES of our Smartphones:
1. Instantly communicating ALL images to the CLOUD. [BACKUP]
2. IMMEDIATE Audience.
Instantly email/post our work to a wide audience.
3. Built in location information for each shot.
4. More acceptable at performance venues. Many ought right BAN "Professional Cameras with Interchangeable Lenses"
5. Less threatening form factor for Street Photography.
6. Built-in PP capabilities often FREE!
7. Wide range of Camera Options on current Models.
8. Lightweight & portable.
9. Availability of rugged cases
[Otter Box, etc]
10. Wide range of cost-effective accessories [tripod mounts, lenses etc.]

Anything I missed?

Just one thing... People who dislike them don't care what they are capable of doing.

And there are some who likely feel threatened by them.

Oh yes! God forbid someone with a phone can take a picture as good or better than them.
