I have discovered very recently that my Samsung smartphone has at top of screen a "G4" symbol. At first I thought it was the phone's model #, but that is G3. So, It's apparently my wifi "frequency? " While waiting in Dr's, dentist offices for appointments is when I appreciate having some entertainment to pass the time. At those locations the WiFi symbol at top is "G5" and all phone operations work fine. At home, no connections work. I don't think WIFI signal strength is the issue as both my IPad and Samsung tablets show a full strength signal reception. Have I found the smoking gun or is the problem not related? I mentioned in my earlier post that I bought a current model Netgear Orbi 3 piece set, but decided to delay installation until I find out if the older model is the problem, as setting up new model appears much more involved than was the old one.

Well I have to say you have provided a great deal of confusing information...I don't recall the specifics of the first post...

A Samsung model G3 is a 27" monitor...so, which Samsung smartphone do you have? I would guess that if you have a newer Samsung phone and it has 5G cell phone service (not WiFi) from your provider that's what you are seeing...or 4G service, but most likely LTE service if there is no 5G where you are located at the time.

The Netgear Orbi is likely a Mesh WiFi setup, hence the much more involved setup routine. If a single WiFi unit is what you currently have been using then the Orbi Mesh unit really isn't something you need. You didn't provide any useful information on what model Netgear you have so I can't comment on exactly which NetGear unit you have.

Sorry for the detail issues:
1. Smartphone - Samsung Z Flip3 5G
2. WIFI - Orbi 87, Router plus 2 extensions

I've done a bit of research on both units, phone and WiFi and I have come away with no suggestions. Depending on how you have the Orbi configured I see no reason you shouldn't be able to connect to it.

Sorry I can't be of any real help

If I’m reading everything correctly I think the problem is poor to no cell reception. I have that problem where I am. On iPhone I turned on wi-fi calling. In case of very poor cell connection calls go over my wi-fi through the internet. Not sure on your phone.

I live in an area where cellular signals are too weak to make/receive voice calls in my house. But my cordless landline works fine. I am inclined to think the problem lies within my WIFI system. I simply want to be sure the problem is my "outdated " Orbi system before I tackle the install with my recently purchased model.
Thanks for posting.

Your cell issues and your cordless landline are unrelated. As suggested, go into the menu of your phone and enable WiFi calling. You may also need to call your cellular provider to activate it. Once properly activated, it will use the WiFi in your home if the cellular service is too weak.

Now whether your existing WiFi router is providing good coverage is a different matter. Once you have the cell phone set up for WiFi calling, you’ll need to choose your home WiFi network and enter a password, just like any other device. If it works in close proximity to your router, but not at the furthest corner of your home, then yes, you need to install the mesh system to get better coverage, but first get the WiFi calling working and see.

I don't have a very intimate relationship with my cell phone.
