Now we will se the Medina as it usually was, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Doesn't this look like a movie set straight out of Indiana Jones?
It's too bad these photos don't give you a sense of the sounds and the smells ... an oral and audio cacophony of life.
The summer heat was unbearable for us, but the locals were far more used to it. We were both teachers, so the only time we could travel back then was during the summer. The advantage, of course, was that this was off season for Morocco.
Salad anyone??
We stayed in the shade as much as possible. The locals didn't seem to mind the sun at all.
By pure accident, we found a functioning synagogue. I imagine that there were about seven Jews in all of Marrakesh, so I'm sure it didn't functon very much. The keeper was a very nasty blind guy who basically told us to get lost..
One of the Medina's many gates.

This part of the Medina was protected from the sun by overhead tarps. It was still hot as Hell.
One of the zillions of little shops.
Another shop. We actually bought an iconic octagnal table in the Medina ... not in this shop ... and in those days we could carry it home on the plane. The table was carved and painted by foot, not by hand. Not enough space here to explain.
You could paraphrase the foot story but honestly, I think we can see how it would work.
A foot is much less of an imagination stretch than the picture that Jerry (JD750) posted of the painting elephant in Thailand.
We must go with the flow/

A foot is as good as a mile.
And the journey of one thousand miles begins with the first step. :)

Wow! That's a fantastic review. Thank you.
Fantastic set Mel. Glad to see the synagogue shot despite the nasty Shamus!

There are nasty people everywhere. Why not in a synagogue in Marrakesh??

Wonderful set of 'street scenes'! Excellent story telling, makes me glad to see it thru your lens... My wife would never even consider going there.

Maybe if my wife asked her, your wife would have gone. In any case, from the recent photos I've seen, there's not much there now anyway.
