Me too. Just make sure the camera and lens are secured in the bag as most do.

Back in the day when I took a dslr along when using air travel, I separated the lens from the body. Lens went in a case, either oem or OpTech. The body rode along in an OpTech. Both packed in a carryon, not in a camera bag. Worked just fine for me. It’s a personal thing.

My usual practice is to detach the lens from the camera especially with long primes and long zoom lenses. I may leave a 35mm or a 50mm on a body. I make sure that in my camera bag, everything is protected from any form of internal movements or bumping.

When in a car, I try and detach a long lens from the body too. If the lens is attached, I make sure the whole rig is supported so there is no stress on the point where the lens is mounted to the camera body.

I keep my lens on, but the camera and additional lenses are all packed pretty securely in a LowePro Magnum 200 AW shoulder bag which protects well in the event of turbulence (or a drop from the overhead storage bin).

I always have a lens attached. It is usually a small zoom or a small prime lens.

I was just wondering what most do, as I’ve received conflicting advice. Do you keep your lenses mounted on cameras in your camera bag, or detach them, for long airplane flights? My thought is detach, so if there is turbulence, added pressure won’t be put on camera mounts. Just wondering what most people do.

I always have mine attached. Never had a problem or been asked to detach at the airports.

i wonder if there is enough turbulence to detach the lens from the camera are the wings still attached to the rest of the aircraft

I also keep the camera close to me. Although this time i might take a plastic bag and place the camera bag in it. Seems the airlines are not doing a good job at keeping planes clean.
