The R7 is a definite step up but if weight is you primary issue, it's not a big difference.

It seems lighter when I was holding it, but I'll check the specs. It sure is smaller though, that may have been what I noticed most!
Thanks for your response!

Why don't you try renting the OM-1 and 12-100 f4 Pro IS lens (24-200 angle of view in 35mm terms). The system weight is 2.53 pounds for body, battery, card, and lens together. This would reduce your system from two lenses to one lens and lose a good portion of weight. I suspect it will reduce the size also.

This is my current system - OM-1 / 12-100 F4. It's very light, easy to use. My previous system was a Canon 5D3 and at my age (say over 75) I needed a lighter system.
Be aware that the OM-1 is very, very different so you need to invest time to learn the new platform.

I retired my 5D MkII and a T6 this spring by getting a R and R7 body. The attached photo was shot with my R7 and a Sigma 150 - 600 mm lens. I believe the mirrorless bodies are lighter and I use my old EF lenses with an adapter. I love the crop sensor for my aviation photography efforts.

I'm currently shooting with the Canon 90D, but with my favorite lenses (24-70 and 70-200) it's just too heavy to take all of the above with me all the time...which I do! Recently visited B&H and checked out their mirrorless Canons...I am find with cropped sensors, so I think I might get the R7. I'd love some feedback from anyone who has made the switch! Thanks!

I went from 7D to R7.
Body is noticeably smaller and lighter.
The move was a huge step up for me. The 90D is very capable but still older and not as capable as the R7.
I kept all my EF lenses as they are all 100% compatible with the R7 regardless how old they are. So I had some weight savings but the EF 100-400MM it is not as noticeable as with lighter and smaller EF lenses.
The RF 100-400MM though would be a large size and weight savings.
I have no regrets in moving to the R7.
PM me for further thoughts.

Switched from 5Ds to R5. Mirrorless is more advanced camera another transition like we did with film. SRLs will slowly fade away as they take excellent pictures.

Fabulous photo..I am beginning to consider a different system, but it makes me anxious to consider learning an entirely different platform! I tried with Sony, but it was just too hard : (

90% of any weight difference is in the LENSES -not the body ....for any meaningful weight reduction you will have to go to M4/3 or Sony RX10/100 ....

Or use crop lenses on his crop body instead of FF… (he’s currently using Canon FF EF lenses).

His current IQ will drop in this scenario ....for a very small weight difference...ie kit lenses
