Visiting friends in Maryland during the July 4th weekend, I got lucky with a willing, able and uncoy ruby-throated hummingbird, in love with my friends' potted salvia plants. Its nest was on a tree right next to the deck with the food source which all aligned well. While its difficult to get a shot of the hummer's tongue licking nectar from the stamen, the hummer did choose to stick its tongue out when perched on a wire.

Comments and critiques welcome.

Wonderful shots, Ronnie. These are far superior to shots of hummers on feeders.

The shots are super 🏆⭐🏆⭐🏆, Ronnie, and don't take the hummer's tongue sticking out as a personal critique of your photographic skills 🤔

Thank you, Bubba, for your feedback. We're trying to attract a nearby hummingbird with a potted Salvia plant, and it does visit it occasionally, but does not stay long enough to take a pic. I'm going to put a feeder up, now that the hot weather is easing up a bit.

Desperate times, Desperate measures. 😃
