The first. In it, there is much less noise and better detail. For example, in the figure standing by the building the head is more reconizable, whereas it is just a hint in the second and earlier versions.
It's a tossup for me, Ben. I like the clean lines of the first one, and I like the honesty (for lack of a better word) of the second. So, no clear winner from me.
Ben, great shot. I will declare #1 a clear (no pun intended) winner for a different reason. The lighter concrete overall affords a defintive separation from the two black areas of rectangles/triangles, as well as allowing the human figure to be more recognizable. To me it's a classic B&W in B&W.
Shots like this usually benefit from an infusion of starkness. The cleaner blacks in the window frames add to that. Put another way, the cleaner windows make for better contrast and a more pronounced geometrical look. Personally I prefer the darker triangle of concrete - there's sufficient brightness on the front face.
