Disney Unmasked

Ever wonder what happens behind the magic of Disneyland? This candid shot peels back the curtain, revealing a side of what used to be the "Happiest Place on Earth" that’s a tad less enchanting. There’s Mickey – or rather, the man beneath the mouse – grabbing a smoke break with the iconic ears resting by his side. This glimpse into the off-stage life of Disney characters serves as a reminder: even in fairytales, reality sometimes sneaks in!

I think that's a "she", but who knows today? Especially at Disneyland!

When Disney bought Marvel, I decided to find out what else Disney owns. It's a little overwhelming.

That's not even a Mickey head in use today............this could be anywhere in the world, at a kids party even. Really old photo...........just saying......

As a Disney fan and former Disney cast member I see several things wrong with this photo. This is either a very, very old photo or it is a fake costume worn by someone imitating Mickey Mouse.

First, that costume is a poor imitation. Compare the headpiece and general disarray of the overall costume. Disney is very picky about their costumes and this one does not meet their standards.

Second, cast members are never allowed to be out of costume where visitors can see them. This is a rule that, if violated, can mean reassignment or even dismissal. There are rest and break areas "offstage" and hidden from all public view so that cast members can relax and be out of costume.

Third, for the past decade or more, there has been no smoking allowed on Disney property, especially cast members who are in public view. I will not say, that there is no smoking at all, but it is usually well hidden.

My best guess is that this is an imitator or impersonator doing a party. Anyone can buy a fake costume and pretend to be a famous and more importantly, a tightly controlled trademarked figure. However, this costume may be "off" enough to escape notice by Disney's legal teams.

Walt Disney would turn over in his grave if he saw what the organization he founded has become.

I have a much different view of Walt (my warning on this input) - Do some reading about "beloved" Walt, he was quite hardcore (a real "prick & bastxxd" by many accounts), thought people should work for him for (nearly) free, low pay, hard hours, low/no benefits, anti-union, etc. He was a hardaxx money maker with a vision who loved sucking up the publics money, but not very caring or sharing of cast or crew.....not at all what the general public seem to think he was........

Yes, I have been to the parks over the decades (Cali and Florida) and I know a few folks who worked for Disney in various capacities (low to high), for cast and crew it is not "the Happiest Place On Earth"....a real dung hole of a place to work.

It still is for the most part. It is still a great place for kids and those adults who are kids at heart.

However, entitled, obnoxious adults can spoil it for everyone. Tolerance has been replaced by intolerance and respect for others has been replaced with scorn or outright hate.

Good manners and respectable behavior appear to have gone out of style in the past decade.

When I first looked at the photo I chuckled a bit figuring this is obviously a joke. Then lI read the OP’s comments and thought “uh oh” he’s serious…he thinks this guy is real😳Someone else has already pointed out the obvious errors and I’m not saying Disney is perfect but the comments cropping up are even funnier than the photos.
