Tivo - Odd Situation

Spectrum stopped supporting Spectrum months ago, so I stopped paying Tivo $17 a month. It's still connected and part of our cable system. The odd thing is that we can't access the Tivo. I suspect we won't be able to watch the shows that are recorded on it. I knew we wouldn't be able to record once I cancelled the subscription, but we couldn't record, anyway. Now, it seems that if you don't keep paying, you can't what you bought.

We mostly do streaming here, so I haven't looked at broadcast TV at all. I bet we can't get the regular stations without paying a monthly fee for a box from Spectrum.

I think you mean Spectrum stopped supporting TiVo?

I have two TiVo boxes hooked up to my TV. The old one (with lots of recordings) I connected to another HDMI port on the back of my TV. It works fine, just like any other input source I plug into one of my HDMI ports.

It should work. Not sure how you wired it.

Funny! Although, it seems that Spectrum is offering less and less support for itself. 🤣

It's wired the as it's always been wired, but it cannot connect to the Tivo box. I'll play around with it one of these days. At least I can stream things through Roku, etc.
Unfortunately, I can't go back and edit my post.

Jerry, do you have a 'cable card' from Spectrum; and an analog 'switch' from Spectrum?

Yes, I have a cable card. I also have a Cisco STA1520 box. No analog switch.

The way that Spectrum works with Tivo..
Not standard 'cable box'.
Cable Card provided by Spectrum. This card does not allow 2-way communication to Spectrum. This is why On Demand does not work the same way or ability to purchase. The Cisco box decodes the channels and sends them into the Tivo, for viewing or recording. This is why we need to periodically unplug the box and reset the Tivo--when the signal is marginal.
While Spectrum has discontinued supporting Tivo and new cable cards; my Tivos have been operating as usual.
I do have Apple TV, as I find the quality is better than going through the Tivo for the same apps. However, I lose the ability to record.

That's just about it. I can get very little support, if any, from Spectrum.

You saw the comment by Fredrick above, right?

Back when I got a self-contained TiVo with Lifetime TV Guide (one-time sale, no added charges)
It is connected to our Internet, AND to a 'long range' over-the-air TV antenna.
I can pull in all the local stations both real-time AND over TiVo - where I can record them & watch later.
Also have Roku, Firestick, Netflix and Prime. I'd like to drop Netflix - but my Bride wants it.

Interesting situation. They were offering the Edge (I think) for $450 with lifetime subscription. I wonder if that would still work.

I tried unplugging and re-plugging everything last night, but the TV still can't find the Tivo, and that's my only connection to TV from the cable. I'll have to get a box or DVR from Spectrum and pay even more every month.
