Have an 'off the wall' friend whose parents lived in Arizona. After a visit he brought a scorpion home as a 'pet' One morning he woke up with hundreds of tiny scorpions throughout the house. Seems the pet was pregnant and gave birth to many little scorpions the were smaller than the mesh on the cage. He had to vacate the house for a week while it was fumigated.

....but to my surprise, i found something that i never thought i would see here!

Be careful!

You are soooo right Dennis. Another word, although not four letters, is "sneaky". Under covers, in boots, shoes, even hanging from the ceiling just ready to drop and attack.

My neighbor, in Nashville many years ago, was stationed at Fort Hood here in Texas. He told how in the evenings when they had nothing to do they would encircle the pests with gasoline and set in on fire. The pests would run around and finding they couldn't escape would then commit "bugacide" by stinging themselves to death with their stingers.

That was way back in WWII. You probably heard of it. It was in all the papers. The war, not the stingers. sm09:

Feed it peanut butter, strawberry preserves, blue cheese and celery and it will live for many years to come.

I have to admit I did not hear of that particular event going on but I have certainly heard lots about WW2.

I can tell you when I was with the USMC during two tours as a door gunner on CH-46 aircraft our living areas had a rat problem. There were cages and we caught a lot of rats but not enough. Our method of operation was to pour JP-4 jet fuel on the caged rats and then set them on fire. Not pleasant for the rats but it did serve to kill any plague bearing fleas on those rats. Not one of us seemed to care about what the rats went through. Oh well.

Do neighbors actually have a bearing on the amount of scorpions one lives with?

Just asking as i know next to nothing about scorpions.

When they bring in material from elsewhere and have acres of wet wood? Yes. This was not a scorpion area. I lived here for decades without seeing one. They started bringing in material and suddenly I was inundated. Now I have to spend my grocery budget on scorpion control.
