I have been on Amazon several times looking for a DSLR camera. I have researched till I am blue in the face, and have narrowed it down to 2 bundles.
One is brand new, and the other is about $100 less and renewed. Is there anyone out there who has experience with the renewed products on Amazon? Are they reliable and in good condition? They SAY the products are in excellent condition and have been tested but you never know.
Thank you in advance.☺️

My question would be: “renewed by whom?”

Sometimes intermittent faults show up only with prolonged use, not with the quick-once-over testing that a workshop would give it. If it was an intermittent fault that caused the product to be returned, Amazon may decide to just re-issue it if the fault didn't show up in their testing. That happened to me with a mouse that I bought from them as a warehouse deal.

At times it will say who it was renewed by if you search the small print. If renewed by the manufacturer, I might consider buying the renewed. Yet when you are only talking about $100, I would buy the new, hands down, every time unless it is grey market. Anymore when I check out the Canon factory page, you don't get much of a savings anymore when you buy renewed.

Buy the new one. $100 isn't worth the possible issues with a previously owned one.

Yea. I’m kinda 98% sold on the new one. I’m just afraid that I will inherit someone’s mess. I’m 66 but I still think new is best. The reason I was even considering the renewed one was because it came with a photo editing software pack, but I can get them easy on Amazon if I really want them. I may find that I don’t really need them either.
Thanks😊

First of all, $100 off on a $400 bundle is different than $100 off of a $2000 bundle.

Secondly, I searched all of Amazon renewed devices and did not see any cameras or bundles. This is from the US Amazon.com website. Where are you checking out these deals? I would be concerned if the camera was not renewed by the manufacturer (first) o r Amazon (second). I would not by a renewed product from any other company.. --Richard

I believe Amazon provides 90 days for return of "renewed" products? If true, take a chance if you like and work it over for a couple months, then decide.

What does this camera bundle specifically contain? Who is seller on Amazon and how much are they selling it for? Is it being sold via Amazon Prime with free returns? Can you return it if you are unhappy? What are the return policies? With regard to the seller reliability that depends on who the seller is. More than half the products on Amazon are not sold or shipped by Amazon. Determine who is actually selling it and their reliability ratings. Without more details, you query is much too vague to give you really useful advice.

Most of the DSLR bundles on Amazon include older low end camera bodies along with very basic lenses that were released at least five years ago if not longer. Some of these bundles also include the inexpensive and mediocre Canon 75-300mm lens. They complete most of the bundles up with unspecified gear which is probably low quality no name stuff. With these bundles you will be getting a lot of junk you will likely not need. With regard to to the renewed packages, don't even thing about them. To quote from one of these renewed bundles, "This product is in "Excellent condition". The screen and body show no signs of cosmetic damage visible from 12 inches away." Ugh! Run away as fast as you can.

3kids3cats!

I can't believe that what you want to buy isn't available elsewhere from a specialized photographic vendor such as KEH, MPB, Roberts or one of the retailers such as B&H Photo, Adorama, Unique, Hunt's or Kenmore? What is in the "bundle" that would make it special? Renewed by whom? These guys have been in business for ages and are happy to make any problems right!

Living and having my own photo studio and custom lab here in NYC for over 40 years, I feel I have a bit of experience with buying and selling lab equipment, cameras, lenses, computers and other essential business products with all the above-mentioned sellers as well as many defunct ones in the "Big Apple."

I don't know your budget but in the photographic world, $100 is not that much and would it be worthwhile if the "bundle" was disappointing and had to be returned? As an Amazon Prime member myself, I do scour the reviews before buying anything and when it comes to cameras, especially "renewed or "refurbished" I'll stick to an OEM or one of the above vendors who have a more rigorous inspection and repair department. This year I had no qualms about buying 2 Nikon Z5 bodies refurbished by Nikon and sold for a good discount from new.

Be well! Ed

I bought a renewed Apple Watch from Amazon and it has been excellent. I guess your mileage may vary, but I have zero complaints.

That said, for $100 dollars difference I would go with new.

Good luck, Cat
