Some Avantis, but Probably Not Studebakers

This is from the archives, and I can't read the cards in the windows, but I know we have some knowledgeable car guys here. I'm pretty sure neither of these is an original '63 Studebaker, but searching Google for what they are is hopeless.

I wasn't originally aware that after Studebaker-Packard closed down the South Bend plant that someone continued to make Avantis until the 1990s, but I think that these fall into that category. If any one knows the years of these cars, (I'm guessing sometime in the 80s) I'd appreciate knowing what they are.

I don't remember the production years but Avanti was built for several years in Canada after Studebaker shut down in the US

Original Studebaker Avanti not made as a convertible and they had round headlights.

Sorry Curmudgeon, when Studebaker stopped US production in Dec. 1963 they continued to make 2 and 4 door sedans and the wagon in Hamilton Ontario. The Hawk was discontinued along with the Avanti.
A group of Studebaker people bought the Avanti rights, dies and parts along with a portion of the South Bend plant and had new Avanti's available for 1967.
There's a 4 door model as well as the convertible produced in the late 1980's. Both in very low numbers.

Last Studebaker was a 1966 4dr Cruiser made at the Hamilton plant on March 16, 1966, which is now in the South Bend museum. The Hamilton factory was once a Anti Aircraft gun 'Bofors' factory during WW II. Studebaker started making cars and trucks in Hamilton in 1947. IIRC Studebaker dates back to the mid 1800s making Covered Wagons.

Studebaker did indeed make wagons before getting into automobiles. I cut this model Studebaker buckboard on a scroll saw several years ago.

The "Lens" app on my cell phone identifies these as either 1987 or 1988 Avanti II models, possibly built using some parts from Ford.

That was my suspicion based on what I could find by Googling, but these don't seem to have "Avanti II" on the front, as some of the pictures showed. The history of the Avanti after 1963-64 gets very confusing...

I always (and still do) like the Studebaker look. Especially the Avanti and the Hawks
