Salem, Oregon. A great day and a wonderful eclipse!

A friend and I drove down from Canada for this stellar event.

My brother lives above Marquam, OR ( about 21 miles from Salem, OR ). We had a small party that morning. I had my camera setup and was ready to begin. I took a photo every 3-5 +- minutes from the beginning to the end. I wish I had taken more pictures of everyone when they were wearing the safety glasses looking up into the sun.
Thanks for the memories.

Magnificent capture 🖤🖤🟣🖤🖤 of a FUTURE eclipse, perhaps the first in recorded time 😨

Sorry if i was unclear. My first sentence was answering the OP question, the second was talking about the one next April, since Jill, the first responder, mentioned the next eclipse and others started announcing their plans for that one. Sorry about the mix-up. (The one in my photo was from the August 2017 eclipse.)

Yup, we were shooting from a hotel patio. Great party with drinks to stay cool and lots of pictures taken.

I was on my front porch in Goodlettsville TN. I had my SX50 HS bridge camera (yes, 1/2.3" sensor) on a tripod. I consider myself lucky. The second shot is how the spaces between the tree leaves made many eclipse images on my porch bench. The first is a crop of the SOOC photo, lens at full tele.

I was in Cross Plains TN about 400 yds from centerline. Didn't notice the prominences in the images until I got home and looked at them in post. Used a 300 mm lens. Also got the sunspots on the face of the sun prior to totality. Was expecting complete darkness during totality and was surprised that it got lighter toward the horizon where it was like a 360 degree sunset. Totality lasted 2 minutes and 30 seconds where I was at and my wife and I both agreed that it wasn't long enough.

Drove down from Akron, OH the day before and it took me 7 hours to get there. Left for home about 30 minutes after totality and it only took me 16 hours to get back home. Was a constant traffic jam and slow moving traffic a the way back. At 3 AM in Ohio, just south of Columbus ran into a 12 mile long back up that took an hour and a half to get by. Got home at 6:30 AM. Won't have to travel for the next one but I'm going to take back roads north to get as close to Lake Erie as I can to get close to 4 minute totality.

Land Between the Lakes in western Kentucky; in 2024 I will only have to drive about 20 miles west to be in the middle of it.

Better question is where will you be on April 8th, 2024?

In 2017, I watched from Oconee County SC, where I currently reside. On April 8th, 2024, I'll be back in my hometown in Jefferson County NY. (if the creek don't rise.)

Totality at two solar eclipses less than 7 years apart! Am I lucky or what?

My husband is from Jefferson County (Adams Center) and went to elementary school with a Larkin. He's curious if he might know you.

I was in a Walmart parking lot in southern Montana taking pictures of the solar eclipse along with a few portraits of the local bald eagles hanging out on the parking lot light poles.
