Is there significant image deterioration if I use my F mount 1 .4 X teleconverter using an FTZ adapter with my Z camera and Z lens or is it better to invest in Z Mount teleconverters?

Thanks in advance for your guidance

Based upon what you have said above, "with my Z camera and Z lens" .........................

The FTZ will fit to the Z camera body. The other end (outer) of the FTZ will have the 'F mount 1.4TC' attached to it. The other end of the F mount 1.4 TC will be for an F mount not a Z mount lens.

Or am I missing something?

If you are referring to using a 'Z camera' with 'FTZ adapter' an 'F mount 1.4 TC' and an 'F mount lens' results I have found have been no different than when used on my DSLRs.

You are right. I’ll need a Z type TC if I’m using a Z camera and Z lens.

Z TCs are used only on z mount lenses. F mount tcs are used only on f mount lenses. The FTZII is used with f mount lenses with or without a f mount tc.

Your question is just a bit garbled but a simple way of knowing what you need is to remember that a TC is part of the lens, and NOT a part of the camera.

That info leaves no doubt that an "F" lens uses an "F" TC while a "Z" lens uses a "Z" TC. From there, everything else simply falls into place.

Worth repeating for emphasis: a TC is a part of the lens.

Which Z camera and lenses do you currently have ? Looking briefly through your previous posts I see 'my Z6' but also references to Z9 and Z8. Correct and complete info helps strangers get a better idea of how to assist.

Lots of good info on 'All things Nikon Z' here .......

Look under Lenses / Adapters and Converters / Teleconverters ....... 3 items with good info.

There's also some good teleconverter info in amongst this video comparison of Nikon Z 400mm lenses......

The FTZ adapter has no optical elements, so it shouldn't factor into the equation. Its only function is to position an F-mount lens the correct distance from the photo sensor. So, mount your FTZ on your Nikon Z-series camera, then attach your F-mount teleconverter, then attach your F-mount lens. Easy peasy.

If I read his question right, he referred to using a Z camera with Z lenses; not f mount lenses. So, based on that, I would think he needs a Z TC.

Knowing what camera OP uses is unneccesary.

Well - I guess there's nowt quite like being 'put in your place' by a yank ..... !!

If my comment is 'unnecessary' then that makes your follow up 'irrelevant' - I have no need or desire to be instructed by you as to how to comment here ! As you all love to tell us 'have a nice day, pal'.
