I believe that you are confusing this with the Russian attempt which crashed!
Software errors have plagued space travel since the start. First US effort blew up due to a misplaced 1 I believe. A Mars probe a decade ago failed due to timing of retro rocket or parachute opening?
Software can be easy to write, but damn near impossible to prove it will always due what you think it should.

The Russian spacecraft crashed, not the one from India.
