The female Goshawks can get to be almost as large as the male Golden Eagle. When I was living in NC, a female wintered in the woods aound our home. She was impressive, but she was effective at ridding the area of feral cats (there were about a dozen of them) . She also terrorized our two cats. They would not go outside if she was perched within sight, which was often.
We get a couple Northern Goshawks in the winter. They are tough at our winter bird feeders and on our local pygmy rabbits.
