Nice and very unique! I saw them when I was stationed there in '70.

Quite colorful, and interesting, and so unique!
Wish my Dad was still alive to see these, as he was there at the end of WWII.
Wonderfully written and interesting narrative, and your pictures depict the buses' colorful artwork against a drab background, beautifully.
Another winner!
Rode one many times while on liberty in olongapo city (sp) whenever the USS Midway (CV-41) was in port.

I'm sure your friend would know a lot more about them than I would. And I'll bet his wife would know even more.
I have not talked to her about it but he said "Yeah, they’re all over the place there." She might not know a lot about it as she is not so much a "machine" history fan. She was a dentist in the Philippines and a nurse in the USA.

I had been wanting to see the USS Midway in San Diego as a museum ship but I have moved too far away from San Diego now.
I did get to visit the USS Iowa at the port of LA a few years ago. WOW!
Fun, enjoyable series!! Rode on Jeepney's while in the USN visiting the Philippines...thanks for the memories!!
I, too rode in these while in the Navy during the 70's and 80's. Also the trike motorcycles they use in this same way. Do you have photos of those? They are kind of like motorized Rickshaws.
I can't decide if this is a car aficionado's dream or nightmare.
Any way you look at it they are well photographed and the historical perspective is, as always, terrific.

Thank you very much for that, Mike.

Somewhere in my files I have photos of the cyclos of Vietnam, but they were not motorized. They were also like rickshaws but, instead of trotting, the guy peddled an attached bike.
