Brit rail flex pass

I'm planning a trip to the UK and have bought Brit rail flex passes for myself and my granddaughter, but the way I understand it, you have to request your ticket a day ahead of time to use it for that day. How is that possible without a computer, I'll only have my phone while traveling. What am I missing? Several years ago, I would have a pass that the conductor would punch but modern times does it differently.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know personally but Brit Rail says you can hop on and off with no pre booking... We had Eurail passes a few years ago and that was the selling feature... Just hop on and off any train and use first class if you wish... Pre booking takes ALL the advantage of spontaneous travel away.

Your phone is a computer.

This says that you don't need to validate before travelling but must go to a ticket office in the first station you travel from with your passport.
Just check before travelling as there are lots of train strikes over here planned until the autumn. You can still travel be just check before you go.
Have a great trip

This sounds more reasonable... We bought passes in the states and had to check in and validate them at the first station used from... All downhill from there; those trains are so efficient you can pick out a spot on the concourse and your car will stop right there ! A great way to do spontaneous travel. A 15 day Eurrail and a backpack would be my goal...
