Went to the nearby Wal-mart store in Galesburg, Il. today. It's been a while since I've been there and right-away I noticed that something was amiss. All the items I normally shop for have been moved to other aisles and so I had to waste a good half-hour finding the few items I went there for. Dish soap where drill bits used to be, junk food where Ziploc bags used to be etc. etc. I can't imagine what the bean counters in coporate hope to accomplish but I'm sure it has to do profit margins.

They want you to have to go to all the isles to find the stuff you regularly buy, and maybe you will notice other things you might buy.

I worked at WW for 6 years. Moving merchandise around was a PITA for associates too. We had to learn new locations constantly.

This is a common ploy by corporate. It also keeps the staff busy rather than goofing off.
Keep asking the staff silly questions like where can my poodle go to use the bathroom? Where can I find clear spray paint? I need left handed screws. What aisle are they in? We’re are the solar powered bbq grills? Where are the left handed fire enhancers? Where do I find tires for driving my car in reverse? The best of all is where did I park my car??
This keeps the teenagers they hire busy trying to figure out stuff. I am very sinister!

It must be a thing in retail now - I went to get my liquor supplies and everything was moved to a different location. Even the staff didn’t know where things were in the new layout.

I suspect that Walmart must have consulted with my Better Half on how to arrange their products for just about the time I remember where we keep something in the home, she decided that it should be stored somewhere else.😁

Thanks, I thought I was enduring ‘this’ alone.

I just take the items off the shelf and put them where they were before. Keeps the staff busy and confused.

There are people employed by various corporations whose job is to figure the best store layout to increase sales or to have the best arrangement for fulfilling curbside and delivery orders. This results in more work for the employees and annoys the rest of us. The other night I was back at the electronic section of Wallyville looking for a battery. When I asked the young fellow working in the area where I might find the battery, he replied that they were up at the front of the store. I commented that one might think it would be a good idea to have some batteries back in the part of store that sold the products that would actually use the batteries. He looked at me and said "Do you reckon that they consulted me about that?"

I happen to work at Costco. Sometimes they do re-arrange, but a lot of it is by customer requests or vendor requests. Vendors will pay extra to have their product in a prime location (end-cap, aisle display, etc.) There is an expiration time on this so at the end of this time it goes back to where it was. Diapers used to be at the back and customers wanted them up front so they didn't have to go all the way to the back when they had their babies with them. They moved them up front for a while but other customers complained that they weren't with the other paper products so back they went.
