===== From the site : a dash z dash animals dot com =======
While locusts are part of the grasshopper family, there are differences. There are 11000 known species of grasshoppers and only 19 of locusts. Grasshoppers are typically green, brown, or gray in color. Locusts, on the other hand, are a type of grasshopper that undergoes a transformation in behavior and appearance when they enter a swarming phase. During this phase, locusts become larger and change color from green to yellow or brown. They also develop longer wings and more powerful hind legs that enable them to fly long distances.

1-2. American bird grasshopper.
3-4. Carolina locust.

Comments and critiques welcome.

Very nice pictures; however, I'm curious. What do long legs have to do with flying long distances?

Thank you, Floyd, for viewing and commenting. Your question about long legs and flying is an interesting one. I have to Google further for answers.

Maybe I will ask ChatGPT!

I am still using my trusted old D500 + 300mm f/4 F mount + TC 1.4iii. However, I just got my Z8 last week. I am.still waiting on the 400mm f/4.5 Z lens.

In the meantime, I'll mount my 300mm + TC on the Z8 with the FTZ adapter for practice. The focusing system is a bit different, more powerful with the AI. With heat index at 100+ each day though, the birds, and most bees, are AWOL during the day though.
