PhotoShop was a game changer for me. Is this the next shift?

Does anybody have experience with this? Would they confess to it? lol

Photo AI has been out for sometime now. It is arguably the best multipurpose post processing tool on the market. It will allow you to correct a multitude of mistakes but it is no substitute for a well shot picture

Please tell me about the "AI" feature.

It is not truely AI as we have come to know it in the past few months. It doesn't generate pictures or any thing like that. Topaz says it uses "machine learning" to identify and correct common problems. If you are looking for a picture generator take a look at Photoshop beta, Adobe Firefly or MidJourney. There are many more out there but these are the only three I have experience with.

It de-noises, sharpens, evaluate the image in search of faces to enhance, and it will enlarge the resolution of an image.

It certainly does not create AI images as stated above. I shoot birds and sometime macro, while using a long lens especially with humming birds I will often have to push the ISO on my camera to achieve the high shutter speeds necessary for that type of photography which creates noise in the image and nothing works as well as Topaz software to remove that noise, same with macro, sometimes ISO is pushed to allow for the small apertures required for a greater depth of field when shooting extreme closeups. I find the sharpening in Topaz to be more pleasing than in Photoshop, more subtle and less obvious, what is nice abut Photo AI is that it combines both steps into one.

Topaz has many wonderful features, but it isn't going to correct poor composition. It can help with lighting and sharpening, removing extraneous distracting elements, color correction. But the photographer's eye is the most essential component for that well-shot picture.

I found this photographer to be very helpful in his description of Topaz and AI. https://youtu.be/jKal0JQtUfY

I have it! I've been using it on my earlier 3mp pics, many of which you might have been looking at here. I love it.

We are seeing quantum leaps in image processing. Light noise and the go to is the denoise function now in LRC. A more holistic approach (do before other processing) is Topaz AI. Looking at a great image and need a more professional attack, Topaz DeNoise and Topaz Sharpen in last steps to processing. All our AI processing which means the computer taking instruction. adding what is constantly is learning and applying to an image.

I do a lot of restoration. Topaz is helpful but does not come close to the restorative processes available in Photoshop

It’s an excellent program. For animal photography, like birds and butterflies, it’s very useful. I also like the way it makes faces more clear in large group photos. If my SOOC RAW only needs cropping, I send the RAW straight to Topaz Photo AI from Bridge to crop, sharpen and denoise. Then I am done. If the image needs more PP, I send from Bridge to ACR then to PS and use Topaz as a filter in PS.

Since I mainly use the inexpensive Canon RF kit zooms and the RF 100-400 IS USM, Topaz is a game changer and convenient.

This eagle was shot from very far away with the R7, RF 100-400, TC 1.4 and processed in Topaz. While not the sharpest image even with all that, Topaz allowed for a decent photo despite the lens choices and severe cropping.

I switched from Adobe to ON1 several years ago and I’m very happy with it. How does ON1 compared to Topaz?

I can now use my 1.4X extender and not incur image loss. I use it without hesitation or quilt.

I have had it for some time now. It was not so good early on introducing disturbing artifacts, but it's improving with each release and it seems like there's at least an update per week. Updates can be clumsy with long download / install times and sometimes requiring you to log back in with your Topaz username and password. Now, it actually does a good job on certain types of images. I did some testing last week and still find that I can do a much better job with LrC, PS and Topaz Sharpen AI.

The way I look at it, if you are not skilled at Post Processing, it's probably a very helpful tool. If you are skilled at Post Processing, you'll probably want to continue to enhance your images yourself.
