Exactly right. The Left seems to forget we Conservatives have a right to our opinions just as they do. But they try to silence our opinions. So far that ain't working well for them. The more they whine, cry and bitch the stronger Conservatives get. Dennis. This statement you made pisses me off and forces me to respond. "For our teachers who many on the Left speak glowingly of, having over 50% of children FAIL is not a good number. BS with your idiot teachers statement. Do you want to know why 50% FAIL? It is not because of teacher idiocy, it is because of parent idiocy. Some parents, not all, do not see the value of an education, therefore do not support their children in becoming educated. School is a daytime babysitter, so the parents can work. If school were available more hours a day, parents would keep their kids in school longer. When I taught HS, all of my quizzes/tests were open book/open notes and using homework was allowed. Result: 60% Failure rate. Without parental support in education, most likely kids will fail. One of the things I noticed more recently is a profound sense of entitlement, i.e. I exist, therefore YOU OWE ME. Why did I get an F? I showed up for class. This is the future of the US. When I worked for Costco, we would get new employees that would show up for work and leave shortly thereafter. The work was too hard and they wanted to get paid for doing nothing. What do YOU know about Left Wing Teachers Unions? About as much as you know about teaching. NOTHING.
Back to the topic: I agreed with much of what the Mom said. Do you really agree with what DeSantis is doing to Florida's educational system?

Well first off, I know about Left Wing teachers unions from my mother being a teacher until she retired years ago. That was when teachers took seriously their profession of TEACHING. Now you can blame the parents all you want but these days when parents do get involved with their child's education they are labeled Domestic Terrorists by the FBI and DOJ. F'ing Amazing isn't it, parents demanding to know what their children are being taught and are told they have no right to question what the STATE is doing, OR ELSE. Please, using some sort of common sense, tell me/us you do not agree that it is the STATE who is in charge of our nation's children. Please tell me/us parents do have every right to question what is being taught to their own children.

I have no paid any attention to what DeSantis is doing in Florida. Why don't you tell us.

You bring up Costco. What the hell does Costco have to do with teaching children. What the hell do Costco employees, good or bad, have to do with the Teaching PROFESSION? Many job applicants these days due to the Left Wing insistence that employees be doing this or that, be paid a specific amount of money, not be given too much responsibility and so on has led to employees simply refusing to work at all when they are not allowed to talk on their phone while working, don't like having to appear at the job site at an appointed time of day that is inconvenient for them, etc. Surely you might recall you were given a job and told to report at a specific time and whatever else you had planned for the day meant nothing to the boss. That is what WORKING is all about, you get paid to WORK and your personal preferences are not taken into consideration IF you want to earn money.

When 50% of students are not passing a grade it certainly IS the fault of teachers, not parents. Yes, parents do have a lot of influence on whether their children pass or fail but ultimately it is the teacher's responsibility to TEACH those students. Teaching is not the responsibility of the parents. Getting the students to class is the parents responsibility but not the teaching itself. Teachers who are in that failing 50% group must surely be in a class of failure themselves for allowing the number to happen. When you consider numbers like that are happening in a number of cities it is definitely the fault of TEACHERS.

Thanks for pointing it out but I didn't so much overlook the point but did not see the necessity of bringing it up. In the classroom it is the teacher who bears full responsibility of teaching, not the parents.

But you are correct in that parents have the responsibility of ensuring their children get to school and demonstrate the desire for education.

You're right druggy. I taught them to use available resources, which is what they would have available outside the school environment. They were just too lazy to make use of their available tools. If you don't understand, then all the resources in the world won't help. I can imagine the failure rate in life of my students, which scares the hell out of when they become dumb-assed Republicans.
