I know what you mean. I find a phone very awkward for taking pictures. I have to hold it out in front of me, yet it must be kept steady. I have to keep my fingers away from the lens. I have to continue holding it steady while I maneuver a finger to the shutter button. I must admit that cell phones do take very good quality pictures, though.
Emile Pakarklis has a short YouTube video on how to hold an iPhone. It works very well but like everything else, practice makes improvement.

I'm funny (old fashioned?) that way. I do my editing exclusively on a desktop computer.

Sometimes I also find it difficult taking selfies Jerry, you need to watch the Chinese...

I don't take selfies, but I should, especially when I'm doing a group shoot, and I'm the only one seen in the pictures.

"Talking... a picture with my phone". ... that's ah bit suspect right thar!

What is the OP’s point here? That he doesn’t like cellphone cameras? He apparently hasn’t taken any pictures with one, so how would he know? It gets tiring of seeing folks denigrating smartphone cameras or photography. They’re not just for work or to document something. Perhaps there’s a superiority complex with some, those who apparently regard smartphone cameras as some sort of lowlife inferior device? Get real people, smartphone cameras are here to stay and are getting better and better. And they take some darned good photos, too.

Not sure why you're so angry that you have to shout and curse. Nobody's forcing you to take photographs with a smartphone. It is also very odd that you would make such a strong statement when by your own admission you've never actually taken a photograph with a smartphone camera. I can't imagine what prompted this tirade about something you have no personal experience with.
These days my main camera is a Nikon Z fc which I really love and use with a variety of small prime and zoom lenses. But I don't have it with me all the time. For those times I have the very capable camera of my Samsung Galaxy s21 Plus phone. It's especially useful when I'm in venues that do not allow cameras. It's also great for capturing anything of interest when I'm out just performing the tasks of everyday life.
Last year I was at an early evening baseball game at the local stadium of the New York Yankees Double A minor league team here in New Jersey. After an earlier rainfall there was a rainbow that extended from one side of the field to the other. Without a cell phone camera, that you seem to deride, I would not have been able to capture the shot.
Cell phone cameras are just another tool. You're probably missing out on a lot of great shots by not having one with you all the time.

While I still prefer using my mirrorless camera and top quality lenses for most of my photographs, I agree that you can get some great shots with cell phone cameras, which most people have in their pockets almost all the time.

The iPhone has very good metering (unless you are shooting into the light) - but - plan on using Photoshop on the image - which I have made display 16x20's from - the only bad picture is the one you don't take, and as the phone is in your pocket you have little excuse

Well, I was trying to make a point about cell phones but I can see that it passed somewhere over your head. Sorry!
Harry, you should feel free to make pictures in whatever way and with whatever device you like.
No one cares what you use. We care even less about what you Don't use.
It is the results that matter, and it is beyond debate that smart phones are capable of great results under many conditions. No one forces you to use them.
So you did not succeed in making a point about cell phones, but you did make a point about yourself.
There are lots of picture taking devices in the world, use what you like, and be well.
If ever you are without a camera, but with a modern phone, when you see a picture possibility, you may find your phone is capable of taking remarkable photos. Or you could just be a camera snob and miss the photo all together.
It's been said here before, the best camera is the one you have with you. We had an unannounced fire drill at my company this morning. Had been trying to get a group picture for a long time. Had my cell phone. Got a great group picture.
I have used my iPhone for years. High end phones have image quality. However, other cannot match my pro SLR’s or even my little Sony x100iii. Why not? Because no matter how many megapixels are claimed, the sensor s are not large enough to create images that can be enlarged to the same degree.
I have some great images that sadly will not be printed larger than 8x10 if that.
Having said that, there are myriad uses for phone photos. Any camera is better than no camera. So many great captures on social media and news photos are from phone images. We would not se most of these if not for millions of people having a ‘camera’ with them/on them all the time.
Finally, technique is all important when using a phone cam; a solid platform to steady the shot will yield much better results. Hold it steady as possible. It’s akin to target practice.
In low light non flash images will be grainy or pixelated to be more precise. I have 60,000 images in my photo library on my phone. Many are just informational. A third of them are cats, dogs, and wildlife. Much better than the few or none I otherwise would miss!

Are you sure you had nothing to do with the fire drill?
I hope a copy of the picture is sent to everyone involved.
