Thanks for the printer advice

Thanks to all who responded to my printer question. After going through all the suggestions I looked at the printers suggested and checked out their prices. Right now Costco has the ET 2850 for $179 with extra bottles of ink and a super good return policy. I ordered one and it will be here on Wednesday. I hope to have it running shortly after receipt and hope I do not run into some of the issues mentioned. If I do, back to Costco it goes and I may try the Brother printers.

UHH comes through again with timely, accurate information to a question.

Regards to all-----Joe

I don't know the question. This is a photography forum. That printer has a black and only three color tanks. It is a "home office" printer, not a photo printer. It may very well be a good printer, but photos may be disappointing.

The Epson EcoTank PHOTO printers are the ET-8500 and ET-8550. They have a black and five color tanks.

You got a good deal, but be sure it is what you want.

If you want photos on your greeting cards and want them to look like they are photos, you'll want a photo grade printer. There are not many of them. Both Epson and Canon make a few. They are the ones with 6 or more color cartridges or tanks.

If you are not making cards with photos, any color printer will do a good job. Most have three colors. Get any printer on sales at a price you like. The printer being discussed in this topic was on sale at Costco last week for $180. It is back to the normal price of $200. Costco has a very good satisfaction guarantee system.

FYI, I had an HP photo printer with five ink cartridges for years, and now have the Epson EcoTank ET 4850 printer with four ink tanks. I can’t tell any difference in photo print quality between the two.

That's good to know. Epson tech is always getting better. That said, even Epson encourages the ET 8500 and ET 8550 for "photo quality".

...not a radical departure between the two, but if you bump up to the "pro" models you will definitely see a difference in the color palette.

I have the Epson ecotank et 8550 and the quality of the 11x14 are excellent.
Now that I print with a small white border there is less ink slop to get all over

I have the ET4850 and love it, with four bottles of ink, good for up to two years of printing. And replacement ink is not that expensive as many Amazon suppliers have comparable ink for affordable prices.

Cheers and best to you.

I also have the Epson EcoTank 4850 and it is excellent.

I also have a 24inch-wide Archival printer from Canon, but that was thousands and was for professional archival printing of up to 24 in. wide archival prints and up to 24 in, wide archival roll paper, with multiple inks. Almost no one needs such a printer unless you are running a pro lab.

The smaller size dedicated photo printers from Epson and Canon are the standards, but not cheap unless on sale.

Cheers .
