I found a small flat area just a short hike from Mt Hollywood Rd to capture this evening image. The Hollywood sign is just a short distance directly behind me. Originally, I was looking to photograph the sign, but as I walked around the area, I became more interested in the city lights. I ended up spending all my time taking pictures of LA from different locations around the area. This is a 2-shot pano, getting the observatory and the downtown area into the same image.

I never did get the shot I wanted of the Hollywood sign.

Nice pano of the Hollywood area. Hollywood sign has been done so many times. I like your choice better.

Thanks, I agree. I've never gone back to try getting the Hollywood sign.
Really nice photo. Where are the stars? I meant the ones in the sky.
Nice one, Mike. The observatory is very pretty and your rendition is very well done.

Thanks.
The city lights were too bright and my exposure too short to capture the stars (the ones in the sky).

Thanks Mike. The observatory is always photogenic, but best when the lights are on in the evening.

Indeed, but if/when the mood strikes again, I would not object to your interpretation of the Hollywood sign.
That is the real trick to capturing an image of a severely overdone scene. Putting some of YOU in it.
