I was fly fishing at sunrise on Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park July 9th 2015, what a day.

It must have been an ethereal experience being there, then, and not having people crawling around you
Even with waders, was the water a little 🧊🧊🧊🧊🧊 A superlative composition, but you probably know that by now 🥇

Yes, I did understand the Zen meditation of sill forms like fishing and the focused art of accurately shooting a bow... mine is taking machines or tasks apart, redesigning, and rebuilding them in my mind before actually doing. The Dalia lama would be a fly fisherman and release and apologize to the caught fish.

I align with most of the replies above. For me in this ‘digital world’ it brings me back to “center” I’m able to think clearer and appreciate what I have and where I’ve been. As for releasing the fish, I sometimes wonder while sitting next to a camp fire at night “when I release them, do they frantically swim around trying to warn the others about alien abductions?” Hummm

[quote=dpullum]Jon, what is the psychology for a person to spend hours making a "fly" then stand in cold glacier water to catch a fish that one could buy in the market. Worse yet to catch it and then throw it back in~! I never understood.

That’s the point. Release the fish so he can live on and give someone else the thrill of catching a fish. It’s the pleasure of just relaxing and fishing for the fun of it. I guess you have to be a fisherman to understand. I’m sure you aren’t one because you would never have questioned it.
