How I feel about "go-fund-me-accounts" used for final expenses. Way too many folks these days do not seem to understand personal responsibility should trump none essential desires or wants. We are fast developing into a nation expecting others to take care of what is clearly OUR own responsibility.
How many times lately when someone dies for whatever reason one of the first things you hear is someone is setting up a go-fund-me-account to help pay for the deceased funeral.
What happened to buying Life Insurance so when the unexpected happens there is money to take care of the deceased remains. Responsible people do that deadbeats don’t.
The old arguments of he/she is not insurable because of medical conditions or we just can’t afford it are not very sound arguments when we see that things owned like big screen TV’s, luxury cars, expensive cell phones, etc. were affordable and purchased instead. So, now you think it should be my responsibility and others like me to help chip in to dispose of your remains. Balderdash!
Today you can purchase a life insurance policy for about $10 per month that would cover your funeral and burial costs. Yes, there is a small caveat in the policy. Usually, a waiting period of two years where if there is a claim your beneficiary does not get the full face value of the policy but instead they usually do get back the premiums you have paid. After the 2-year waiting period you have a permanent policy that never changes. Premiums and face value remain the same as long as premiums are paid.
This kind of policy makes it totally irresponsible for almost everyone not to have a permanent life insurance policy so when the inevitable happens, final expense funds are available and your survivors don’t have to go through the embarrassment of telling everyone via a “go-fund-me-account” how irresponsible you were.
We give a fair amount of money to charity yearly but I refuse to give to those who rely on a
“Go-fund-me-account” while shirking what I believe to be a moral responsibility. I realize there is always the exception to the rule and for some $10 per month just isn’t affordable and for those I truly feel sorry. Too bad it’s the survivors who bare the shame of what someone didn’t do. I don’t like being taken advantage of and this makes me feel this is exactly what is happening here. Am I wrong?

I agree with the sentiment concerning go-fund-me accounts for those irresponsible for being prepared for death, and the costs.
Is there any explanation why a viewing-casket-service-funeral should cost so much?
”The average funeral costs [with burial, are] between $7,000 and $12,000. The viewing, burial, service fees, transport, casket, embalming, and other prep are included in this price.
The average cost of a funeral with cremation is $6,000 to $7,000. These costs do not include a cemetery, monument, marker, or other things like flowers. [

Why all the anger? No one can force you to donate to a Go Fund Me account that you don't agree with.
Just don't donate. See? Easy peasy.

Totally agree. If you didn't plan for the inevitable, death, then no one needs to fund a fancy funeral. Cheap pine box, no embalming, no big service no nothing. Die and get buried ASAP.
PS my family generally do this anyway even though there is insurance just because we see no need to waste money. My father wanted just a body bag and no embalming but the state required a casket regardless. I believe though he wanted to be buried as his many buddies were buried in the islands in WWII though, as part of that request.

Sounds like this does not impact you, so why post?
Don't like the mentioned gofundmes, don't give anything. At that point its none of your business.
In USA people are free to panhandle, which is basically what this is...and we are free to smile and say "no thanks."

Panhandling has become epidemic.
People used to have a bit of personal pride and worked or did without rather than panhandle that you think is a wonderful character trait.
That concept is un American as one can get.

I'll donate my body to science.

Yesterday, at an intersection near my home, there was some nimrod panhandling, stating he needed money for food. Directly across the street is a McDonald's and a BK stating they had job openings, start now.
