I need to consider getting my a99ii repaired and Sony gave me this company's website. The place is in CT. I'm wondering about how close the estimates were and the quality of the repair. The estimator on the site seemed to give a fixed price based on the model, and mine, with shipping, would be just above $600...a lot of money IMO, but certainly cheaper than a new FF camera.

I think the place in CT is Precision Camera.

You may want to google it to avoid making a decision on just UHH members.

I agree with Bill_de, I had them repair a couple things on my A-77. The work and shipping was prompt and complete. Camera came back good as new. Price seemed a little steep but like you say better than buying new.
Its been five or six years and I don’t remember how the final price compared to their estimate, or if there even was an estimate. I think they did an evaluation and emailed me the final price for my approval, but can’t say for sure.
All and all I was quite satisfied and will use them again if needed.

I just got an e-mail from the. They said if I the parts were really excessive, the evaluation would cost $35 if I decided not to repair it and $58 for return insured delivery. They esimate 5 days form approval and final cost could vary depending on parts needed. Thanks for your input, Bassman.

Many years ago I didn’t have a good experience with them and my Olympus camera. I would ask where you bought the camera who they recommend for repairs.

Good Luck, my fellow Hogger.

If you want another opinion, I would like to suggest contacting another Hogger. I heard of RJ Riggins from here. We had a few emails together and I sent him my Canon 5D IV. He quoted me an agreeable price. I sent him my baby and it was repaired. I mailed him a money order and received my camera a few days later. I used the US Postal Service and took a boat load of insurance to send it to him.
He does the same and there is an up charge for him using insurance. It is well worth it.

I am sending you this because you can make an informed decision by having another person to repair your camera.

I checked out the website (UHH search didn't turn up anything). I guess it sounds OK, but I bought the camera used from B&H a few (?) years ago and they suggested I contact Sony. During a chat, they gave me Precision's info. They are a licensed authorized Sony repair center. I think I'm more inclined to go that route at this point...sometimes you get what you pay for, and depending on the problem it might end up costing my the same anyways. Rick might do a fine job for a good price, but having an expensive camera worked on my someone who works out of his house makes me a bit nervous, personally. No offense to anyone intended...it's just my opinion.

Five years ago I too didn't have a good experience with them. They sent my Sony lens back unrepaired plus it came back with no front or rear lens cap. They didn't return calls or emails. Run Forest run.

For what it’s worth, this shop is generally considered to be among the best camera repair shops in the country. Don’t be mislead by its name - they are expert in Nikon, Canon and Sony. It’s been my go to shop for Nikon repairs and a few years back I had a Sony A6000 repaired by them. Outstanding work always. I am an NPS member who lived about 30 miles from Nikon NY repair facility, yet for out of warranty work, I often chose APS. faster service, same price and you can actually talk to a tech (at least you could 5 yrs ago).

They are Sony's main authorized service center in the USA. They serve the same for Nikon and Canon and many other brands. I have had Sony warranty work done there and it was done perfectly and professionally and with my SPS (Sony Pro Services) membership the total turn around was just four days.

Precision Camera is the largest photography gear repair facility in the USA with decades of work for pros and amateurs alike.

Cheers and best to you.

I'll try to get hold of APS on Monday, as well as Chrysler. Did review searches on Precision and Chrysler and Chrysler had better review by far. I have a feeling that whoever I choose, I'll have to either rent a camera/lens or take my old a77 with me to OSH'23 because I doubt I'd get it back in time.
