Ink, what have you decided?

I'm finding that the price of printer ink is becoming a factor at my place.

Why the great disparity between brand and independent. Is one really better?

I've been using Ink Farm & Ink Owl for a couple of years. No complaints so far. Much less shocking to the wallet than the regular Canon Ink tanks.

I've been happy with LD inks. Much cheaper than OEM, and they often have sales.

My solution to the ink problem is to get an Epson printer with the "ecoTank" refills. nlvhal

I decided to use OEM ink.
I don't print many photos, I farm them out.

I use, "Hp" and they can tell if I am running low and they will send me ink by delivery.

Today I seldom use my printer, as a matter of fact it has been sitting at home with no use and it is ready to hit the trash can. I use more my images online and I have not printed anything in over a year.
I agree, OEM inks are too expensive, I guess that is how they make their money.

I only use OEM ink for my printers, my Canon Pro 100 has been absolutely trouble free since new (2015) and cannot imagine ever changing ink brands.
The non-branded ink that users on here seem to prefer is Precision Colors, which seems to cause less problems overall.

And of course third party ink may look <slightly> different,
but only if one has OEM ink print to compare with it.

Someone receiving a single print would not know.

I've tried refillable cartridges and several external bulk tanks. The best solution is by far the EcoTank printers.

With my ink tank printer, the cost of ink isn't an issue. I've printed about 6,000 pages, and the original ink is about at the halfway point, although I may have started on a second bottle of black. I bought a complete replacement set for $68. I seldom use my HP anymore because it can no longer print on disks. I have a newer Epson for disk printing. I use that to little that I'm still using the Epson cartridges.

One of my printers let me refill the cartridges, but another brand does not allow filling. I'm not sure which one that is.

The cost of ink is criminal.

You should see what a set of ink carts cost for a Canon Pro 1000.

$38 or $125. Tough choice. I think I paid $100 for my Pro 100 after the rebate.

The next time you put gasoline in your car and are shocked by the price per gallon, be thankful that you are not filling your tank with printer ink. That would be a real sticker shock.
