I love my 9-18 and use it a lot hiking in the mountains. I hadn't considered the 12-100 because typically optical qualities suffer with zooms ratios getting bigger than 5 or so, but seeing you and others here recommend it, I have to re-think that. And given OM systems modern approach to computational photography, the 5x zoom limit may be overly restrictive. Anyway I have added to my "want next" lenses list.

Try the Zeiss 24:1 zoom on the RX10m4 - it WILL change your outlook on high ratio zooms - at least in this one case ! Small sensors need at least f4 lenses.

And a few more, including some street stuff and a few long exposures using Olympusโ€™s Live Composite feature.

Its not good to apply FF "math" to m4/3.
If you believe 5x is quality limit for a FF wide to longish zoom, then that would translate to about 8x for m4/3 ... and about 16x for 16mm cine.

IOW, fear not the 12-100/4.0 !!

When Olympus designed the 12-100, they went all out with the design. When I rented it for our 13 day Germany trip, I really did not understand how good a lens it was. I had been shooting with the non-micro 4/3rds 14-54 lens which was sharp. I found the 12-100 to be even sharper even with its larger range. To me, it is the "Swiss Army knife" of the photo industry.

I have a Sony A73. I'm thinking of a smaller camera for travel in my old age! I'm looking a Fuji XT-5 or an OM1. Any input on this decision?

Greetings! I use Oly M43 system exclusively. But I am at the point of getting the Sony Rx100 for travel and leaving the rest at home. If my trip is photo centric (Africa etc) then the gear goes. But Iโ€™d itโ€™s is just vacationing then I think the Sony may just go. When I realized I just put the pics in a photo book there really is no reason to carry all that stuff. Still process in raw and do my best but need to par stuff down.
