The Red Coats were already stationed here....remember we were "colonies", and "the crown" was mandated to provide for our safety, keep the peace and "preserve order" by rounding up and/or jailing those fermenting "freedom" ... there had already been the Battles of Ticonderoga, Lexington/Concord and Bunker Hill in 1775, a year before the "letter" was composed. Oh, and Washington was named commander in chief of American forces, the U.S. Navy was established. And, after all that, on July 5, 1775, the delegates from the colonies still tried to seek peace with the crown with the Olive Branch Petition.

My tradition of many years is to watch "The Capital Fourth" on Public TV.
It's a reminder of the Declaration as well as the war of 1812 and the creation of the Stars Bangled Banner and the many conflicts since.
Not unusual to show disabled veterans in the audience and upon the stage.
