Here is what I see as the next thing: You buy a new car, but it will not shift automatically unless you pay a monthly fee. Otherwise, you must shift it manually.

Well, an automatic transmission used to be an option,
along with power steering, air conditioning, radio, power windows, ...

Maybe we should tell the manufacturer that having the seats, or radio, or other subscription items should not be installed into the vehicle. i.e heated seats are very pricy regardless. The harness, and the seats must be removed and not disabled. If I purchase the vehicle with heated seats, no subscription. If I do not purchase heated seats, seats and harness should not be in the vehicle.

So don’t move it onto a new computer. Why do you think that it’s the company’s responsibility to continue to upgrade their software to new systems, etc., for free? that’s not realistic, and makes no economic sense.

Nothing lasts forever.

That's not the situation. They made it impossible to activate the software again, regardless of the computer. They want you to rent the software, and if you stop paying, you stop using.

Can you force them to do that by law? I think not.

AutoDesk has decided that your lifetime has come to an end. If you bought AutoDesk years ago, you will not be able to use it on a new computer. If you want to continue using it, you must buy the new version and continue paying for the rest of your life.

I'm afraid the days of ownership are coming to an end. There's no reason why every device that uses software cannot be switched over to a subscription plan. We will have to pay dozens of companies every month, just to function.

I know that some of you are going say that's fine because you'll always have the latest version of - whatever. Be assured that corporations love you!

Let me ask a friend of mine who is an IP attorney whose main focus is software. He may have better insight.

No, you own the license to use a dead product.

Now I am thinking if we think of it on the bright side that Autodesk Lifetime is shorter than our lifetime which is a good thing.
