A very good alturnitive for a DSLR. Go to your Google task bar and type in "Nikon P7700 review". You'll get all the reviews you can read. I don't own one but their very good cameras. Smaller than a DSLR, bigger than a pocket point & shoot.

I have owned the P7000, p7100 and now the P.7700.
The P7100 is my favorite as it still includes the optical view finder. The P7700 has an improved sensor for low level work but gives up the viewfinder. It's LCD viewer is further articulated which permits me more steady postures. I'm beginning to believe that it's VRII really does approach 4f-stops.
It's build feels like all steel! It can accommodate both wide angle and tele adapters. I have both but had not mounted either yet. Includes RAWwhich many bridgecamerasdonot.

Bestbuy as a travel substitute for the D600 !

I have the P5000 (which I enjoy) amongst a number of others and contemplated the P7700 as an upgrade but decided there are better options as you are considering in the Sony range i.e. NEX6/7 but I await the new Sony CSC due out in the spring.

I've a good friend who's quite an accomplished photographer who got one a few months ago. He's always been a full frame advocate but he loves this camera as a have-with-you-all-the-time tool. Of course i got to play with it and have to agree it feels exceptional in your hands. I especially like the extensive 'real' controls and build quality. He's got a couple 11X 14 inch prints that look gorgeous. It's a little too large for jean pockets though. Jacket pocket works well.

PS it's funny you say this cuz those are on my short list as well. Honestly, if my wife wouldn't give me heck, i'd get both. If the RX100 had the zoom range of the 7700, i'd probably go that way. But, man, the feel of that nikon in your hand!!!

Has anyone tried the Canon G15? I have it and think its better than the Nikon.

I have this camera.
I bought to grow in to photography and I love it.
I'd like to know the details of the tele converter, brand zoom factor and price if possible .
RX 100 was returned for this. Yes it took great images but really limits your creativity. The Coolpix p7700 has all real / external cOntrols not on screen which I much prefer.

I have the NEX-7 and 5N along with a boatload of lenses. That said, I also recently purchased the RX-100.

It's the size of a Point & Shoot with a 20MP sensor, a really good chip and shoots RAW to boot.

I posted these earlier and I know they suck but they give you an idea of the image quality.
