I have been using an old Bowens Illumitran that I have mounted my D7100. Works great and I can work fairly quickly. I have had this Bowens unit for many years and used one for making lecture slides when I worked at a large teaching hospital back in the 80's.

They are great devices, if the capacitors in the flash are kept well-formed (and replaced after several decades). I made thousands of dupes on mine in the early 1980s. I wish I still had it!

I'm sure it is even easier to use with raw digital files than with the old special order Ektachrome made for electronic flash reciprocity characteristics (SO-366 was a special, hard-to-get variant of Ektachrome 5071 Slide Duplicating Film sold for use in Illumitrans and similar duplicating systems).

However, I'm getting wonderful results from my digital camera setup, described above in the white paper.

Was that the $180 version or the $30 version?

Sorry I did not get back to you earlier, but I did not have internet access. When I bought the scanner it cost $59, I believe. Did a fine job.

If you aren't concerned about optimal technical image quality, it might do the job.

On the other hand, if you want something better, read my white paper, attached below as a PDF file.

Thanks for the info (again). I may get serious about saving some of the old pictures since my knees do not like my weight, and the outside temperature is going higher than my age.

A couple of years ago I was going to order one from Amazon. The price then was $120. When I tried to order it was out of stock. A couple of months later it was back, but the price was now $180.

Instead I picked up a similar unit branded Veho, a British company. I got it from DealDash for $10. It's a 14mp model and does a fairly good job.

BTW the poster mentioned the $30 one was from Bed, Bath and Beyond who is going out of business, so that may explain the low price. However, I searched their website and came up empty.

I hope you are successful but I did not find anything on BB&B (as far as I know I’ve never seen any photographic gear there even before the bankruptcy). e-bay has a bunch of junk the the best price I could find was $70 for a used SCANZA which is the $180 model.
