Symptoms vs cure...
Look around a bit at some of our problems and the solutions we try before trying something else. It is usually because we try to solve the problem before we know what it really is. This is quite common in government. I was taught that when you want to solve a problem, first be sure you have defined the problem. Do this by applying the 5 whys. When you think you have defined the problem, ask why. After you have answered that question, ask why again. After you have done this correctly several times you may know what the issue really is. Then, solve it.

This is a generic question due to a personal health issue that demonstrated the different approaches to medicine, and from there I went deeper and realized that in almost everything we want quick relief by diminishing/suppressing the symptoms while ignoring the cause.
Not to worry I am well, a doc who looked at the cause (out of three) cured me.
That's why we have the terms palliative and therapeutic. Obfuscates what's really going on. First, do no harm, but then do what you can do and in some cases, sadly that's all that can be done.
