The uptick towards the solar maximum has the Ham Radio (and other radio junkies) enjoying worldwide "skip talk" communications (AM/FM/SSB/various other methods), over the last few months I've had extended talk sessions/roundtables/group discussions with operators all over the globe. Even the CB guys/gals are in on it, as even very modest equipment "rocks" during these Solar Cycles. I've been enjoying extended sessions with other hams all over; the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, Africa, Australia/New Zealand/Tasmania, Asia, all of North and South America, Islands everywhere, Antartica, you name em, just about everywhere!! If you are into the hobby as a listener or communicator (HAM/Shortwave/Maritime/etc) this is a "magic moment" in time for us radio junkies....as long as "non damaging" gotta love the solar activity!!

Enjoy!

These things give me such a feeling of insignificance in the scheme of the universe. Is it plausible that the whole of Earths atmosphere could be swept away by a mass ejection event at some time?

Talk about a buzzkill!!!! That would be a bad hair day indeed - there are always disaster potentials, and others (asteroids/supervolcanos/nuclear war/bigger plague/etc). We only have "recorded history" and fosil records/etc. no telling how many civilizations could have risen and disappeared over the millions/billions of years the planet has been here......

It will only get better - the max of this solar cycle (which occurs every 11 years) is July, 2025, after which it will slowly decline to a minimum such as we experienced in 2020. If I live to see this upcoming max in 2025, I’ll be 79+, so it could easily be my last one.

Good DX to you

This is my forth cycle as a serious DX radio guy (some of that was back in my shortwave, maritime & 11m days)...let's hope we all live thru this entire cycle at minimum - LOL (I'm a young whipersnapper I'll be 75) and wish you well in the journey...73's, good DX and many happy qso's de kg4gdk

At some point ol' Sol will outdo itself and give us a repeat or worse... Just a matter of time.
