How tough was Andrew Jackson?

Seven tenths of an inch. The .7 is the percentage of an inch. The ball itself was probably about .69.

Andrew Jackson was also known to be a poor speller. During a campaign, Adams denounced him as “a savage who can scarcely spell his own name.” In response, Jackson said: “It is a damn poor mind that can think of only one way to spell a word.”

Jackson’s spelling was indeed creative; examples include “devilopment,” the continent of “Urope,” describing a “larg” audience, a reference to a “femal character.” He sometimes spelled the same word several different ways in a single letter.

Of course Ben Franklin wanted to set up a new alphabet cutting out 6 letters including C which he said could easily be replaced by K and S.
