I heard a long time ago that any camera can take a decent photo, But its the person using it that makes the photo a good one.

When you reply to someone's post, please use the "Quote Reply" button underneath their comment. The "Quick Reply" field is for addressing everyone at once...
Quote Reply will highlight the other person's comment as "[Your Name] wrote:" above your reply, providing context to everyone to interpret your remarks.
If you forget to use Quote Reply, you have about an hour to edit your post.
To make a quote to reference the target poster, you start with [ quote={username}] {type the important part that you're referring to here} [ /quote]
Make sure not to place the space immediately after the square bracket as I have done above because that invalidates the tag.
Place this at the beginning of your post and it will tell everyone whom you are answering and some relevant information about the question. If it's too long, UHH will shorten it but will provide a link you can use to see the whole thing.

I agree. However, since this is an on-going issue, I wonder if it wouldn't be better if "quote reply" could be changed to something like {Reply to This Message}.

Maybe "Reply with Original Message"
"Reply to This Message" wouldn't be obvious, and simply the "Reply" means the same thing.....

The bells & whistles are available.
Use them, or not. Simple, not rocket science.
A voice of reason - something often missing on this forum.
I've read of other photographers who say much the same. One noted that learning photography would take a shorter time owing to the immediate feedback displaying on the camera monitor. Let's also appreciate the histogram forsh owing the range of exposure values. For each capture.

One aspect of Digital Cameras we should NOT loose sight of is the ability to INSTANTLY view the results of each shot. Not Available on Strip film cameras.
IMHO THIS is a transformative impact of Digital Photography on all levels.
Yes! Remeber waiting a week to see how I messed up shot.
Histogram is extremely valuable, best lightmeter display

The problem is distinguishing between leaving a response that contributes to the general subject being discussed in the Original Poster's on-going discussion and replying to an individual comment within that thread. In that light, I believe having a choice between {Contribute to the Discussion} or {Respond to the Originial Poster} for making a responsd to the on-going conversation versus {Reply to This Message} would be better than Quote Reply. I agree that Reply to this Message is usually redundant, but in the matter we're considering, my suggestions would make it more clear how to respond to the group in general or to a specific person's message.
That would be great. I made a response to Longfellow before I read your post. I just think that instead of years long program of educating folks to the correct way to reply, it would be easier and better to clarify the rules. Thanks
And you know there will still be people who will not utilize it......

Dead on, Dirt Farmer!
Think it's worth sending a suggestion to Admin? Or does the idea need more polishing?
We have 3 ways to reply: Reply; Quote Reply; and Quick Reply. The buttons only address two of them, although Reply and Quick Reply are essentially the same.
Maybe we should start a new thread to avoid hijacking this one. It's already pretty long.
If they didn't offer something "new" or "interesting", why would anyone want to buy one? Bells and whistles sure make people sit up and pay attention (and open their wallets). In a short time, "poof" there is something else we all need and it starts over.
I'm perfectly happy with what I have. I always look to see what's new, but I would rather spend $5000+++ on a trip and make pretty pictures. My pictures are for my husband and I to enjoy, not to make money. They are remembrances. He has a better eye that I do, so I frequently bring two cameras and ask him to make some memories.
