By the way if you are interested in an 18-140 I might part with mine. It’s in excellent condition

I really like my 16-85 on my 7200. I now use it more than my 18-140 which is also a fine lens.

On my 5500 I use a Tamron 18-400. A bit heavy, but very versital.

I love my Tamron 16-300mm lens on my Nikon D5500 crop-sensor camera. I see on the Tamron website that it is discontinued, so used versions may be available at a good price. Here's the info from the Tamron site: https://www.tamron.com/global/consumer/lenses/b016/

I second the comment on the Tamron 18 - 400 lens. I have paired mine with both my D500 and my Z6 II and am very happy with the results. The flexibility of the lens and the benefit of reduced baggage and weight is a great benefit and the image quality is good.

For a crop sensor body, the 16-85 VR is perfect.

I'm looking for a good lens to use on my Nikon D7200 for general landscape and some sports. I have a AF-S Nikkor 70-200 1:4 G ED which I like for sports. But I find it too long for some of the landscape shooting I do and f9or team pictures. I'm thinking the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens might be the perfect lens. I want distant objects to be sharp as well as fairly close objects. I want it to have VR. I prefer to buy used since I can't really afford to pay thousands of dollars for a lens that I use as a hobby. But I want sharp images. Any ideas?

Nikon 18-140 DX 3.5-5.6, $496.95 at B&H. Nikon 18-200 DX 3.5-5.6, $646.95 B&H. You will want the 18mm DX, 35mm equivalent of 27mm for landscapes. Back in the days of film 28mm was considered pretty wide angle.

Both of the lenses are virtually the same size and weight.

Just to reiterate, the OP wants SHARP images - not likely with all these high ratio and kit zooms being recommended !

He also said sports and landscapes, not likely without a high ratio lens... Unless he wants to carry more than one lens.

Tamron 18-400 should suit your needs very well.

I shoot with the Nikon D-850 and was carrying around the 24-85 F2.8/ 4 Macro lens but have since purchased the Nikkor AF-S, 24-120mm, F4 lens as my walking around lens. So far I like it because it gives me a good wide angle but also it has a short zoom so it's working out fine. Of course a F 2-8 would have been great but I couldn't find one and then like you I just can't afford the high prices of a lens such as that.
Enjoy, David

That is what he uses the 70-200 for ......

BTW, if he does want to cover everything in one lens sharply - Sony RX10m4

I have the AF-S Nikkor 24-85 1:3.5 4/5 G which I like and I use it for landscape shooting and family gathering. It is sharp, but not tack sharp. Maybe I just need to recalibrate it again. These two shots are edited in Photoshop to try to get the most out of them. Would the F2.8/ 4 lens be any sharper? These were taken in Crested Butte, CO in the middle of May this year. Amazing how much snow was still on the ground there.

The Nikon 18-200 DX VR-II is an outstanding do everything lens. Wide enough and fast enough at all lengths.
I have used the original VR version and the later VR2 version of this lens. They have been the only lenses on my D50, D7000, and D7100 cameras during my travels. It's a little heavy and awkward, but it does everything I want. It is possible to use the long 200mm setting at closest focus distance to sub for a macro lens (usually flower shots), too.

I like using my 70-200 for close ups of flowers and butterflies. I think it does a good job.
