I recently bought the nikon 18-300, and I am very happy with it as a walk-around lens, focuses very close, nearly as close as a macro lens, the picture was taken with it, does well wit land scapes as well
PS.
I am NOT a pixel peeper

The 24-120 is an FX lens that you can use with your DX camera. When set to 24mm, as has already been stated, it will deliver the same view of a 36mm lens with a FX body. The 36mm focal length is pretty useful for landscapes but perhaps you want to go wider, something in the range of a field of view of a 24 or a 28mm lens with full frame. 18mm with the digital factor looks more like a 28mm with full frame and for many photographers that is all the wide angle they need. Ultra wide angles require experience to use them properly since they have such a wide field of view.

I have seen already here a couple of negative comments about the Nikon 18-200 VR lens. My experience using that lens has been a very pleasant one and its images have been perfectly fine with excellent resolution of details. I use also at time the 18-70 f3.5-4.5 Nikon kit lens, another excellent performer and now reasonably priced in the second hand market. The 18-200 lens is not long enough nor fast enough for most action or wildlife photography while it is a great all around lens, along with the 18-70. Both lenses do pretty well for landscape photography.

I love my 24-120 f4 Nikon lens for my D750, very sharp, covers 95% so my shooting, etc., but would feel stifled for wide if it was on a DX camera. If you had the 18-140 DX Nikon lens, you would probably seldom get out your 70-200 lens again. That said, to prevent overlap, and for a wonderful, light-weight, very sharp, compact lens, I can not fault my original 18-55 lens that came with my D5100. That would be a perfect complement to your 70-200 lens without any overlap.

The 24-120mm and 24-85mm are good options, but don’t rule out a good prime lens. A prime will be smaller and lighter than a zoom, and that would be an advantage when walking around for landscapes. And with a DX camera you will probably want a max aperture of 18mm or wider for landscapes.

18mm max aperture? I assume you mean minimum focal length. And as for that, people always think wide angle for landscapes. If the scene is so wide you need a lens that wide you’re much better off shooting multiple frames and stitching a panorama. Wide angle lenses are for interiors.

I'm looking for a good lens to use on my Nikon D7200 for general landscape and some sports. I have a AF-S Nikkor 70-200 1:4 G ED which I like for sports. But I find it too long for some of the landscape shooting I do and for team pictures. I'm thinking the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens might be the perfect lens. I want distant objects to be sharp as well as fairly close objects. I want it to have VR. I prefer to buy used since I can't really afford to pay thousands of dollars for a lens that I use as a hobby. But I want sharp images. Any ideas?

Here you go. This lens is so sharp and so popular it is currently back ordered. I have used this lens and it is a great walk around lens and was designed to work specifically with your D7200 with a field of view of 27-300 mm. A great travel lens, I took it many times to Ireland and loved it. You will too.

Agree with the other comments re: you need something at least 18mm side as the D7200 is a cropped sensor. I had a 18-300mm lens on my D7200 years ago and loved it. It was the perfect lens for me as I could shoot pretty much anything. I'm sure you can find one used for a good price.

I really like my Sigma 18-300 Contemporary. It's a great all around lens. I use it a lot with my D7500 and D500.

Although it's a bit big and heavy, I like the Nikon 18-300mm on my D500 w/grip.

The 24-120mm lens is indeed a great lens for an FX camera. The 16-80mm is an excellent general photography for an DX camera.

24-120 was my go to lens until I bought the 28-300.
Although it’s not a fast lens I make adjustments in ISO if I have lower light situations.
