My local Italian place started going downhill when they took anchovis off the dinner salad. The place had great pizza, but when the founder of the place died, the heirs had the recipe but weren't the same chef. It was a poor imitation of the original. Shame.

My “Vic’s has been owned by the same family since the original in 1933. Consistency and quality reign. Lucky me!!

The place I'm talking about was always in a the same small place. There was always a line to get in on the weekend. Some of us knew about the back room. You could bypass the outside line to get in the line for the back room which was short. On Sundays after Cowboys games, you could see Charlie Walters, Cliff Harris and others. Later, the heirs took over a store next door and expanded. They also built other restaurants of the same name and even put the pizza into stores. Unfortunately, the salad wasn't even the same.

I would add pepperoni to it and call it a slice of heaven.
A lot of people like the Hawaiian pizza with pineapple and ham. I’m not sure that was even on the menu when we visited our local Italian pizza restaurant back in the 50s and 60s.
When I was in the service stationed in Sicily, Momma Elio had a pizza with egg on it, different but not too bad. Wood fired pizzas are the best.

My Grandmother from Calabria would make Easter bread with an egg in the middle of it. Maybe there is something to the egg.
