An interesting look at the insane engineering of the USAF A-10 Thunderbolt II. Nicknamed the “Warthog” or “Hog” the A-10 was designed for flying close air support missions and destroying tanks. It is not only an incredibly deadly aircraft but it’s also a very durable aircraft. The Air Force got their bang for the buck with the Hog.

At Commander's Call in the '70s they would show us Air Force Now films.
One had footage of an A10 at an Italian range firing at a Russian tank that was captured by the Israeli's during the 6 day war that was used as the target. When the dust cleared after the Gatling gun burst there was no evidence of a tank.

Hard to believe there are plans to retire the A10. It’s always put on hold as there really isn’t a suitable replacement for it’s intended purpose.

have you ever noticed that the "wise men" who want to retire the Warthog never had to have CAS?
just sayin' ...

I read somewhere, that the A-10's were going to have their wings rebuilt by Boeing, extending the life of the Hog. There's no more bang for the buck than with the A-10.

This is a beautiful plane. With a plane that has a great deal of redundancy, it offers superiority. I would like to be rated to pilot a beast like this. I would need many years of training. Instead I can only admire it from the ground.
