It's a great lens for night (landscape?) photography. I think most people in my photoclub have it and they are all happy with it. It's very sharp but does need a little fixing for horizon distortion. I love it and would I buy it again? Yes!

I have never used that lens nor most likely will I ever. But take at your own words, "reviews were not too bad". What does that mean? Any negative reviews would be cause for some concern but more important, were there any outstanding, glowing reviews? From what you tell us about reviews, the lens does not sound very good to me.

I suggest focusing on the negative reviews. See if they address any issues that are important to you. Decide whether the concerns are valid or perhaps track to user error or incompetence. Use that information along with what you learn from others.
I find positive reviews to be of very limited value or assistance. There is a strong bias to write positively about things we just spent our hard-earned money on.
I owned the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 for a few years. I sold it because I wasn’t using it often enough but the image quality was great. Here’s a bridal portrait I did in 2018.

Now that is an excellent photograph. Well done.

I have the Samyang version of the lens. A great lens for Aurora's and other wide-angle shots.

I have the Samyang ....it's the same lens. I love it. I mostly use it for star photography. Can't beat the price.
Very Nice shot.
There is a new competitor garnering superlative reviews around the world, not as wide, but faster, excellent IQ, and with some exclusive features that not even GM lenses have, the new Viltrox 16mm f1.8 AF Fullframe lens for Sony E-mount, and just $549 USD. Amazing price/performance.
Yes I will be adding this lens to my current kit of 13 E-mount lenses from Sony, Sigma, Tamron, for my Sony A7RIV, A1, A7SIII. I will be using it for landscape, astro, architectural and video work, and lots of other subjects.
My first ever Viltrox lens. I have pro friends that had advance copies to test, and they are raving about it.

Exactly !
Glowing reviews are usually pointless. Everything has flaws, especially lower priced gear. You wanna know about any *real* shortcomings and decide if they matter to *you*.
For instance, noisy AF is a deal breaker for *me* altho the sound itself doesnt bother my ear. I just cannot trust noisy tiny machinery !
you didn’t say what body you were going to use it on. I shoot Canon mirrorless and there are not AUTOFOCUS RF lens for those cameras. I have the EF (with the AE chip) 14mm MANUAL FOCUS. It is a good lens except - no filters because front of lens is very convex and it is a pretty big and heavy lens. I have neck and back issues so anything that adds weight to my bag is being looked at closely. The Canon RF lens are generally lighter than equivalent EF lens. I haven’t picked up the Rokinon in months as I bought the 16mm 1.8 RF AUTOFOCUS lens from Canon for about the same price and it takes filters and is almost a pancake lens. If you have Canon and you decide you want the Rokinon let me know.
