You have a new message.

Hi, Bill!
Thank you for contacting Nikon.

In the past, Nikon did have such a program in place, to have authorized repair shops. Currently, we do not do that. The only "authorized" repair is through our two Service Centers, one in New York and the other in California.

These locations may have the old promotional materials up to call attention to the fact that they service Nikon hardware that is PNLA (Parts are No Longer Available), or they may be companies that take in cameras for repair and send them into one of our Service Centers in bulk to save on shipping costs.

There is, however, such a thing as authorized dealers for Nikon. A listing of these businesses can be found at the following URL.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reply to this email or contact us back at 1-800-645-6687. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9am-8pm EST.

Sincerely,
Aaron N.

You have a new message. br br Hi, Bill! br Thank ... (show quote)

Never spend more on cameras etc etc than you can afford to deposit in the dumpster. I mean that in an "averaged out" way. You may have several pricey items in your kit. They shouldnt all fail prematurely but you should be able to afford to toss one or two into the trash earlier than you actually anticipated.

When something fails, just flip a coin:
Heads: "Replace" wins.
Tails: "Repair" loses.

You say your $6000 camera, now worth 3500 used, is still worth 600 to repair ? Surely it is. You spent foolishly much in the first place and it would even more foolish to back out now. Time to keep calm and carry on.

That is why I bought a used $500 camera worth nothing now, and a couple more to throw away when they get dirty.
Similar to buying used rangefinder cameras in the 60s, except that they still work!

My first two Nikons were purchased new with full warranty. Never have needed service, My next four Nikons were purchased used at about half price and a six month warranty, have never needed service. None are worth sending in for repairs since all are out of warranty and not of high market value any more. Nice to know we have an authorized Nikon service center in town but will probably not use it since mine will become paper weights when they break down.

An economically very rational approach to the acquisition, use, and disposal of gear.

Thanks but my only problem is that I never dispose, sell or give away. All cameras get used on a regular basis until someday they may break down. Has not happened yet. They just keep going and going….

You must have missed Nikon's reply. There are no independent "Authorized" Nikon service centers anymore.
I even posted it in bold red in the original post. That info came directly from Nikon the day I posted it.
