Just wait for the Z28.
I'll bet that will really zoom....

If we're talking ZOOM, I prefer the Z06 option C8.

โ€œC8โ€ means nothing to me.

I'll keep my D850. I can't afford to upgrade any further.

Same here, I'm happy enough with my D500 and D5600.

When Nikon is involved, any details are confusing, especially when they use Nikon-speak.

And then Z9II Rebirth, followed by Son of Z9, the sequel, etc.

This looks like something other than buyer's remorse. Joined today, selling for less than the list price w/o tax.

More like sellerโ€™s remorse. He canโ€™t find anyone to pay him $350 more than itโ€™s worth.

#1: There will be a lot of Nikon D850 coming onto the "Used" market

I've had my D850 for a number of years. I traded in my D800E for it. I've now had my z7 (not z7II) for a little over a year now. In that time I've used each one for about the same number of images. I'm glad I got the z7. Now I'm not drooling over the z8 or z9, neither of which I can really afford anyway. Unless it breaks, I'm not likely to sell my D850. If the z7 dies, my first inclination will be to look for a used D850 to replace it.

I don't know how my personal experience compares with other people's, so I wouldn't say it counts against your prediction. Consider this just the rant of a septuagenarian whose learning curve seems to be lengthening daily.

I love it. Z8 buyer's remorse already: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-775792-1.html

Sounds more like a scam to me than buyers remorse Paul. He just joined UHH yesterday.

You are correct in that each of us has our own personal experiences. My prediction was based solely upon mine. I have been fortunate enough to be able to always trade up; my trade prior to this last one was to get rid of my D810. This left me with the D850 as a backup to my Z9. In all honesty, if I knew that there was a model like the Z8 coming so quickly to market, I would not have bought the Z9. And, being an octogenarian I think I have arrived at my last two cameras ....... probably.

Howard...you might be right on your second forecast, but I think you underestimate people's affection for the D850. I'd never give mine up.

I'm looking at thing a little differently.

I've used Nikon since 1971. I have / had strong brand loyalty primarily because of the backwards compatibility with all my lenses.

Nikon has now set me free to shop other camera brands. It would be a rather large financial jump to go forward with Nikon because it won't be just a camera, but also more lenses plus an adapter.

Maybe its time to take that money and see what I can get with it at Canon or Sony.

You might be misunderstanding mirrorless cameras and a new lens-mount? Nikon's F-mount presents some compatibility issues, but the FTZ adapter, literally F to Z, keeps your F-mount lenses viable on the new mirrorless cameras. "Viable" in the sense you understand older AF-capable lenses may function only as MF on a mirrorless.

All your AF-S lenses will fully function on a mirrorless Nikon body via the FTZ adapter. So, you're not forced to buy new lenses to use a new mirrorless body. Also, buying a mirrorless body does nothing to your DSLRs. They don't explode into dust, nor otherwise suddenly stop working. As mentioned, you may need to assess your older lenses prior to AF-S, if their AF capability is critical. These might be candidates to update directly to mirrorless versions, maybe not.

Sorry but you need to dig a little deeper. I looked up all my lens and I have only two that would work satisfactory on the adapter. The rest would have short comings like no autofocus. with Nikon you always have to dig a little deeper.
