Cable Problem "Solved"

This is almost funny - almost.

I posed that we don't have regular TV from Spectrum anymore. I called and was told that we needed a new box. The guy just left. Spectrum no longer supports TIVO, and we have Tivo. There's nothing that Spectrum can do because they do not supply the cards or boxes to work with Tivo - as of about two weeks ago. I thought that disconnecting the Tivo box would get it going, but I don't have a Spectrum box to connect the cable from outside. The box they gave me is just for Tivo. So, no TV.

The cable guy said I would probably have to sign up with Spectrum again and get a box. And I have a bill for $214 coming due next week.

An Xfinity tech representative recently told me that in the near future they will stop supporting TiVo as well.

I’ve had TiVo since 2003, and love it. My current TiVo Edge box has a lifetime subscription, which I guess will be useless in the near future. I’ll probably need to get an Xfinity box then, which I hope has similar features.

I'll still be paying $80 plus taxes and fees just to get Internet.

Yes, that "Lifetime" seemed like a good idea, until it expired.

Decades ago, NEC introduced the "Multisync Monitor." The idea was that it would be compatible with any computer system going into the future. That lasted about a year.

Look online for recording on Tivo without cable. It doesn't look good.

We left cable last year, saved over $100/month and have not looked back. If you have good internet, stream!

AT&T is running fiber internet in many, many regions. We connected here, 500meg up and down. We stream using You Tube TV and miss nothing. Lots of sports and everything we watched on cable.

Both for about $150/month

No matter what I want to watch, I still need the $80 Internet connection, and I need another service for local programming. At least it will be cheaper than Spectrum. I'm leaning toward Sling, at $55/month. Unfortunately, since I want CBS, I have to pay $55, rather than $45. Sling allows DVR recording in the cloud.

AT&T fiber is about $70/mo and youtube tv about $75. So both for $150ish

You'll log in to youtube tv with your zip code and get local programing. All dvr is recorded in the cloud also. One feature I like...you search for a movie or show, click save and it will record it whenever or any network it comes on. All major networks are on there as well

And no, I don't work for YouTube tv :-)

$80 YT TV doesn't seem to have any advantages over $45 Sling, as far as I'm concerned.

Jerry,

Why don't you use a digital antenna for your local stations? They are very cheap and easy to set up. Once connected, rescan the channels and you can now access all the local broadcast stations for free.

Where I live, YT TV carries all the local channels.

"Lifetime" is legally accepted as being 5 years. My "lifetime" vpn sub lasted 5 years. My Ford dealer told me the same about our Taurus. Apple stores say the same, about Macs and iPhones. In LaLaLand, builders and contractors tried to get it down to 3 years, but the PTBs kept it at 5 years.
I had TIVO until Comcast wanted to charge me extra for it. These days I use my Tablo and Roku boxes.
Also in LaLam I have an external OTA antenna replacing my Dish (another story). I get 140 "free" channels. And like a Spectrum "local channels" listing, maybe 40 are worth (for me) watching. Tho on occasion I may find the 2 young ffemale presenters on the Vietnamese Shopping Network channel amusing as they argue scream and throw stuff.
We don't have fiber-yet- but AT&T is getting ready. We now have a green AND a blue box on the wall. amusingly, as soon as we had both boxed Spectrum raises our Internet speed- by double- something they said couldn't be done! Boost is also installing in our area- competition always helps!

Me, too, but they charge extra for that. CBS and History must be more expensive for the streamers because there is always an extra charge for them, about $10/month.
