Yes, that is my topic. Appears they're not too popular.

Most of the first responses didn't realize you were talking about a Wacom type tablet.

I assume the OP was referring to pen tablets from the likes of Wacom, Huion, or XPPen - tablets designed for professionals and skilled amateurs to do drawing and photo editing.
Definitely some confusion here as there are graphics pen pads and tables, like Wacom makes and there are editing tablets which are computers that display an image an the editing is done using a pen and touching the screen.

Or shoving a long knitting needle in my ear and pulling it out through the opposite side.

Both of those responses are rude and unhelpful. If you've even read enough of the thread to know what type of tablet the OP was talking about, you could say what you don't like about it.

Can’t handle a little levity, eh?

I'd rather see people try to answer the OP in a helpful way.

I've been using the least expensive 4x6"Huion for over 5 years, as a pen tablet for editing Photoshop cc, and it has been faultless, and definitely speeds up my editing process.. I purchased the Huion after my Wacom stopped working, and this was a much lower cost option than getting another Wacom!

I occasionally use one. It is better than a mouse. I sometimes wonder if a touch-screen monitor would be best.

I have a touch screen monitor and wish I hadn't paid extra for it. The cat likes to play with the cursor . . .

I very recently bought the XP-Pen Artist 24 tablet to replace my Wacom Intuos 5 tablet. It is much like a Wacom Cintiq but considerably less expensive. It may be more than you are looking for, but I do love it. It is around $700 on Amazon. I enjoy compositing and photo art as well as photo post processing.

They are popular with portrait retouchers in photo labs.

iPads with graphic and photo editing software are becoming increasingly popular. And Apple just released a stripped down version of Final Cut Pro video editing software for iPad.

Personally, I'll stick to my M1 MacBook Air... It's not much bigger than an iPad and it has a trackpad that sort of works as a graphics tablet. If I suddenly need a tablet, I can plug it in and use it. I do like my 27" monitor for desktop work, though.

You really dislike them that much?

I tried to use a small graphics tablet but I didn’t have much luck. I found it awkward and difficult to control. Graphics professional swear by them so they must be something there.

I think maybe you have to buy the bigger one, to get better control and of course the big good ones cost a lot of money.

I am so done with iOS. The iPad is a great piece of hardware, hobbled by an operating system that is woefully inadequate.

So no thanks to anything that uses iOS. However, if Apple did the smart thing and migrated macOS to the iPad, the hardware is certainly capable of running it, then they would actually have something that might be worthwhile. This is one area where Microsoft did the right thing with their tablets, they run windows.

What Apple should do is release a touchscreen laptop. Many people would buy it. It would be great for using a pen for retouching, or even a brush right on the screen. Imagine that! But I’m not holding my breath for that.

I agree. I had an iPad 2 and my wife has an iPad Pro. I'm not a fan.

Many iPad apps run on M1 and M2 series Macs, but with a mouse and keyboard, rather than a touchscreen. I do wish Apple would merge the interfaces. They make excuses all the time about interface purity, but they just want to sell hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of tablets.

Not sure I would go that far but agree would not edit photos on a tablet. However, would us a tablet as a backup until I can download SD cards onto my desktop at home.

I use my Wacom tablet for photo processing. I find it quite easy to use after initial learning investment. Being left handed, I work the Wacom pen with it and my right to speed through some navigation using the mouse or speed controls on the tablet.

It's a medium which for me is the perfect size. I do have a small Intuos for times I need to do quick edits on location with a laptop.
