So, I'm at Walmart getting my prescription fill when a mid thirty dude comes strolling into the Pharmacy with his young daughter in hand looking like he hasn't seen a bath in weeks; tattered cloths, long hair, very unkept, and his daughter virtually the same. He had a Glock strapped to his waist, hanging low in a leather holster strapped to his waist like they do in the wild west. I stood my ground, looked around at nearby patrons for their reaction, and noted that he was the attention of the pharmacy. Everyone was smiles, attentive, polite, and submissive to the gun toter, with a few patrons slipping into the background. He was making his point...intimidation!
Well I certainly hope he intimidates anyone who might be thinking about shooting an innocent bystander or otherwise victimizing some poor old woman or something.

Actually, he was just doing that most human of actions; he was posturing. I have a carry license, but to show that I am carrying would be about the dumbest thing I could do. Display doesn't protect or intimidate; it arouses competitiveness and destroys all the edge of surprise. And by the way, I seldom actually carry a gun while in public; I do keep one in my automobile(s), however.
I saw a guy at a Walmart with a holster that was on his thigh. He had a gun in it and there was also a place for a large knife. All I thought was he is making himself a target.
I too have a conceal carry permit and I do carry every time I leave the house.
Open carry of handguns became law in Texas in 2021. Interestingly, I haven't seen anybody doing so. My guess is that it's for safety purposes. An exposed handgun can be grabbed by any idiot. If it's hidden, that idiot won't know it's there.
That's my theory, I want to surprise the bad guy, not show him I'm armed.

I have a concealed carry permit, and I would never carry openly - dumb on many levels.

It's bad enough when I see police with guns. Shooting has become the simple solution to an argument.

Whatever you do, don't point and laugh.
Standing his ground as well.
If you felt intimidated then that’s on you.
Not sure that this had anything to do with his or his daughter’s looks or personal hygiene either. Would you have felt better if he was as well groomed as you?

You have to consider the whole package.

So, you’re saying to judge the book by it’s cover??

I will repeat that for emphasis
"You have to consider the whole package"
