I am thinking of trading in my Canon T1 and G 10 for either a SX50, G15 or G1X, The last two are smaller than the SX50 but loses reach. Frankly, I am tired of hauling around all the stuff involved with a DSLR. I gave my Leica to my son he likes to do street photography. Me, I'm down to just shooting the family functions. Have you given consideration to the above cameras and come to any conclusions.

Excellent bridge camera is the Canon SX50 currently being sold at $399 many places, or if you can find the SX40 still in stock somewhere at $329 or less. SX50 has 25-1200mm lens, the SX40 is 25-840mm. SX50 includes ability to add a remote and save RAW right out of the box. Either one would be a very good choice for anyone not wanting to change lenses all the time. Has many choices for making adjustments, including Manual or Full Auto and everything in between.

Nikon P510 doesn't have a Hot Shoe but the Canon and Lumix do.

I currently have the SX40 and am looking at moving up to the SX50. The other 2 are more expensive, and less zoom. I am sure they are great cameras, but for what you describe as your interests (very similar to mine) "MY" choice would be the SX50. The quality of result is very nearly the same plus less cost and greater reach. Plus, the LCD on the SX40/SX50 would also make them very good for "street photography". Sit on a bench with the camera on your lap, twist the LCD to watch the scene while looking at your lap and take pics of people that have no idea you are looking their way!

I know there is a term for the type of camera I'm looking for which is probably why I couldn't search for it on this forum. :) I'm looking for a camera for my sister (I shoot Canon). She doesn't need a DLSR, but, I'm looking for something that is a little more than a point and shoot. Attached lense with some manual features. Looking under $400.
Any thoughts?

Hey Doc ..... Bridge camera is what you're looking for ..... G12 would fit the bill .....
