Mandatory Spending is not my term Denny, it is widely used when considering the federal budgets, by economists, congress, and the CBO as well as others. Of course funding laws can be changed but as it is this is spending that is on auto-pilot and not considered during the budgetary process, it is at times it is expanded as laws are changed as to who under what circumstances is eligible to receive these benefits but it is rarely if ever curtailed.

Not your term .. be more careful

Seriously taking “ mandatory” and defense spending of the table. Eliminates 75% of the annual budget . That plays into the presidents hands .

I don't know if you caught 60 minutes over the weekend but if you did not see it you should find it online and watch it, it did a segment on how military contractors are ripping off the government in what I would consider to be in a criminal manner. I am all for having the most advanced military in the world but I am certainly against monopolistic practices by defense contractors ripping off the American tax payers.... We pay for the R&D then allow these corrupt corps to hold the patents for the research we paid for and they use their patents in a manner that allows them to charge the government exorbitant fees for maintenance services and replacement parts.

There are just some things about our government and the incestuous deal making that goes on in DC and especially out of the Defense Department that people should be put into jail for.

As a person who worked in DOD on both sides of the fence I will tell you the spending problem in dod is not contractors . Contracts require a willing seller and a willing buyer ..it is congress and congressman concern for government spending thier districts/ states.
Contracts make good tv fodder but is a drop in the bucket .

Btw the last senator who was really concerning about government contracts was Claire McCaskill. Who lost to dufus carpetbagger Hawley.

Just watch the segment and then say something, to condemn it without seeing it is ridiculous. The fact that we spend over $800 Billion in our annual defense budget and are being eclipsed by China that spends something online to be less than a quarter of that would suggest that there is something rotten in DC, can you not at least be curious?

Here Denny, I will help you out.

I think they should increase any and all taxes that Liberals pay since they are always the ones whining that taxes are too low. It's also a fact that, in addition to the taxes they already pay--if in fact they pay any at all, they could just voluntarily send as much money as they want to the IRS any time they wanted. Oddly enough, none of them ever do. Seems they always want somebody else to pay the extra taxes.

You are obviously clueless about the actual fact that many of the reddest states receive more in federal benefits than their taxpayers cumulatively send to Washington. My very Republican state of Kentucky receives $1.89 back for every $1.00 sent to Washington in federal taxes paid. Liberal California gets $0.65 back for every $1.00 sent. Do some research before you make stupid statements about liberals not paying taxes, or just continue to be stupid and hope no one fact checks your lies.

That's BS, California when computing that number as has been pointed out by the New York comptroller whose department did a study found that California included its portion of the federal debt when computing the numbers used, California is closer to 98¢ on the dollar. That entire calculation that you point to just oozes with nasty democrat bias.

Another thing about your stupid report is that the report considers all federal spending within a state, no matter if it is military or social security or paying for federal office buildings, so without proper context as to how the money is being spent the report is pretty much useless.

I did just watch it and heard just like you one side of the story. What I got out it is that the contractors re following the rules written by the .
Not impressed- typical 60 minutes.

By the way the F35 that was prominent in that story has parts from 48 different states.

At least you watched it.... Now Denny I like many Americans support military spending because our military keeps us safe and a strong military gives our enemies pause.... Having said that I have to question why our military budget is several times larger than any other advanced military in the world, not by just a little but by multiples...... Maybe you can explain to us where that money goes and why we need to keep spending at these levels and even increase that line in the federal budget.

Well, maybe that no longer serves us well in the new millennia, maybe it is time to focus on having the most advanced weaponry and best trained fighters and less hegemony especially when it comes to the EU.

Sorry my Idiot friend, I didn't say Liberals don't pay taxes, I said they should pay more in order to prove they are sincere in their belief that the Gov. needs to tax more.

You know Denny, I really don't trust media, either the MSM or Fox to deliver full context on many of the issues that they report on but I have seen reporting that we can not quickly replace many of the munitions that we are sending to the Ukraine, could this be true? Also, that CBS report mentioned that I believe it was a Patriot missile that we used to pay $25K for now costs $400K because of monopolistic practices by the arms vendors to the government, could this also be true?
